View Full Version : What is your gas mileage?

Ok... I need some input. I feel like my EP is being a gas hog... anyone else notice this problem?

I'm currently at just over 1k on the odometer, and I'm definitely not getting the 26/30 factory spec mileage... it seems to be more around 22 mpg, maybe more, maybe less. I do tend to drive it at higher rpms, but when I do the same with our '00 si, it doesn't seem to eat up the gas as quickly as the EP does. I know its a larger displacement engine, but its not *that* much larger...

I've also heard before that your mileage improves as you put more miles on your car... fact or myth?

Please post your mileage along with what rpm you shift at on average. Thanks...

I get about 26 freeway/city mix and if i go on a short 60-100 mile trip on a tank I can usually get about 27-28. One time I almost got 29mpg.

The worst I've ever got was 25mpg. But I didn't start keeping track until 1500 miles--you gotta let the engine break in man.

280-300mi out of every tank.

Most I got out of one tank was 326

I've found I get 23 in the city wether I get on it all the time, or drive like a grandma.
If it's the highway, I get about 32

So it is true that it will get better with more miles? This is my first new car, so I don't have anything to compare it to...

I don't really think its so much how I accellerate... its using about the same amount of gas as it was during the 600 mile break in period, and during that I didn't drive it above 4000 rpms. I guess I just have to be patient and wait to see my mpg go up as I put more miles on the car.

Thanks for the responses :)

With the break-in oil still in the engine don't expect anything good. Get that out and you will tell a difference, but not till at least 3k, better 5k.

I keep a good log of gas mileage (I know it is weird). I keep track of total mileage, gallons to fill-up, total average mpg, best 3 fill-up mpg, worst 3 fill-up mpg, last mpg, gallons per tank.

With 7k plus miles my best single tank is 32.18 mpg, worst is 22.39.

Using more accurate average of 3 tanks my best has been 30.52, worst of 26.98. With total mpg since bought being 27.8.

I drive in extremes, either 650 miles at a time on freeway to extremely hilly town driving.

so do you guys actually use up the whole 13 gallon tank or about 10 when the light comes on? cause those 3 gallons make a big difference...

i dont' want to do the math of per gallon, so once i went around 340 miles and when i filled up.. i filled up like a little over 12 gallons.. it was a lot of freeway driving sooooo.. i probably could have went another 20 - 30 miles or sooo i guess.

i usually fill up right after the light comes on and get about 10 gallons each time. and i average about 270 miles. so i end up getting about 27 mpg

i used up one and a half tank and the car is exactly 400 miles. Minus 15miles when I got it off the lot:D I shift around 3K rpm.

You've heard that expression "Your mileage may vary"? It's a chiche for a good reason.

I agree with others who've said that your mileage will improve as your engine (in fact, all the running gear) loosens up with more mileage. And, if you stick with Honda's recommendation re the weight of the oil you use (5w-20, really light duty stuff), that, too, will add a mpg or so.

But, the biggest factors by far are how much you shove that throttle down and where you drive your car. Also, the Si isn't a light car at 2700 lbs. That plus a 2-liter motor (not particular small in the scheme of things) results in about 25 mpg in traffic, tops. (And that's if you look ahead and see what's going on with the lights.)

I recommend you take a broader perspective: The difference between 25 and 30 mpg won't amount to more than a $100-$150 a year, depending upon how much you drive annually. Given the other neat qualities of the Si, if I were you, I'd ignore the mileage and enjoy the ride.

I found that using 87 octane gas gives me more gas. I was buying the expensive one and the engine seemed to just gulp it. Now with 87 I get pretty good millage, I normally just drive it city and I fill it every week and I get around 280 miles and I always fill it up when it's 1/4 left.

I traveled 336 miles on one tank of gas and that was all highway driving on a trip. Weekly, I average 230-260 highway-city. Not as good as my Integra, but I am pleased. I always ride with 93 octane, so if I go down a grade I would get more gas mileage?

I say try it one tank and see what the difference is.

I mean in the manual it says not to put anything below 86 and no where it says to use premium so I used 87 and I love it. JMO

I've consistently been anywhere between 26 and 29. That's a mix of high speed highway and bumper-to-bumper traffic. I don't drive it hard all the time, but my rpms are typically between 3k and 5k with a couple of short bursts over 6k every day. Oh, I'm past my 5k (first oil) change and it seemed to have no effect on the mpg.

you guys shoudln't shift at 3k... our manual's recommended shift point is at like 3.4ish.

14mph 1-2
25mph 2-3
40mph 3-4
49mph 4-5
i tried shifting at these speeds. and its at like 3.4-3.5

The gearing is WAY too short to shift at 3k in each gear. If I did that I'd be shifting every 2 seconds! I typically shift above 4k unless I'm shifting into the gear that I'm going to be crusing in.

I shift around 3.5k - 5k. So far so good since I get almost 300 miles per gallon in bumper to bumper traffic. Hey, does anybody know what many gallons our EP holds?

Just completed the first full week w/ my new EP. I was somewhat surprised to note the low-fuel indicator lighting up at only 250miles. I do remember my

Wow; I must have forgot about those recommended shift points. My initial thoughts are 40mph seems awefully high to shift out of 3rd to me. I'm usually wanting to shift into 5th by then, but I'm definately already in 4th. Generally at 40mph I'll stay in 4th gear though, but at 50 I like to shift into 5th.... so maybe that seems right after all.
