Cons To Short Shifter?

Are there any un-wanted side effects to having a short shifter. someone told me that it is bad for everyday driving? messes something up.....i dunno, source is somewhat reliable, but iffy.

supposedly the shifts are made too soon with the short shifter, therefore making it a bigger risk to grind the gears. That's about it.
I'm not getting one, as I had one on my last car....on this car, I really don't feel it's necessary, the shifts are short enough for me
