OK, i love my EP and after i get a race header i am thinking i want to get an 02-03 Type-S trans with like 11lb flywheel and stage 1 clutch. But i cant find the 02-03 trans for under 1400$ and im not payin that for a transmission. And what u guys think, I/RH/E, motor mounts, 6speed w/ clutch/flywheel would be pretty snappy?

just add the sixth gear to your a3 case. add LSD, light fly and other goodies while your in there!! save money on te trans a get better parts:mwink:

im a big fan of NA so if anything a Z1 or A2 swap down the road

6 speed then. or you can swap out final drives.

I'd rather have an ECU upgrade to harness my bolt-ons than a six speed if I had an A3. Especially if you're going to swap down the road. Get a K-Pro, IMO, or just put it towards the future swap. Maybe I'm just being mean to the bolt-on A3, but I hardly think it deserves a 6 speed.

i had a 6 speed for sale for ages at 900bux but no one wanted it, it had 5k miles on it to 02-03 rsx-s, so i finnaly threw it in my car lol

man u cant find a tranny for under 1400$??? wtf..these things are going for under 1000 on k20a.org and theyre all over..jus search..

and yea this guys right..id get k-pro b4 6 speed..i think ur ep would appriciate it way more then an extra gear with ur current mods..jus my .02 cents

The stock gearing is fine for the street for the a3, but I'm driving at 4k at 80mph in 5th gear. I need another one bad.

I understand the "gas mileage" argument for a new FD or sixth gear for the stock tranny, but it sounded like this guy was coming at it from a performance standpoint. An N/A A3 has top end problems far more pressing than only having 5 gears, haha.

Get a A2 trans, keep the 4.3fd and replace the 6th gear with a TSX 6th for super overdrive.

The actual drive ratios are the same for first and second for the ep3's 5 spd and dc56spd,,, as in, add the gear and final drive, and you come out very close. So you get some decent gears for power AND for some excellent mileage!

Oh yeah, you're right, just reread it. But I don't know what you're talking about; my stock a3 revs to like 11k all day.

Well yeah, but I bet you've got some Type-R speakers or at least some really nice stickers on it.

you would have issues with the vss not reading properly

our transmission has a 4.7 fd already--its just that our gears tend to run a little taller than the 05 06's.

personally i added the tsx 6th gear and lsd and found that sufficient for my 6th gear woes--approx 3500 rpms at 80 is awesome:mcool: very nice and quiet :thumb:

i still can't find a reputable local shop who can reliably install a tsx 6th gear. one shop that had installed it before quoted me a few hundred bucks for labor, but didn't recommend it b/c the customer's tranny started grinding like a hoe going into gear. and yes, the right parts were verified by both the customer and shop tech..
