looks good, but why the a1 oil pump why not an a2???

balance shafts, and higher oil pressure at idle FTW. and i dont think ill have an issue with oil pressure at 8K, but a simple pressure gauge will tell me.

Yup, I still need a clutch flywheel combo, i'm looking at doing type s stuff just to get the car rolling since i'm super short on funds. And a good note i got the head milled, cleaned, 5 angle valve job, and new seals all for 150 bucks. Gotta love Big Don at hasting auto parts. does great work.

Looks real good!! :mwink:

You might wanna reconsider your clutch choice though. Im sure you could use it for some time with no problems... but i couldnt get an a2 clutch to hold solid no-slip upshifts with my cammed a3. I KNOW my k24 would eat it alive. I dunno if there is a difference or not, but maybe look into the OEM CRV clutch?? I can imagine it has the clamping force to do the job. Personally... i would save up and just get a Clutchmasters FX300/400. Your clutch hydraulics will thank you later...

i plan on getting a clutchnet 2x red pressure plate and 2x red clutch and clutchnet lightened flywheel (just to keep it all in the same family) with my upcoming k24a1 swap. it'll prob be a bit overkill for a stock k24, but i'll be sourcing internals and other bits over the next year, so it'll work itself out next summer.

with people like chunky and talonxracer giving clutchnet high praise, it wouldn't hurt to take a peek. ps the aforementioned setup comes to 465 bucks, not a bad price to me!

Great build man. One of my favorite parts to be honest is the cleaning and painting of the engine:mtongue: You definately did it right on this motor man....so don't cheap out on the clutch.lol. I would vote a z3 pump w/ your a1 shafts in it but any way you look at it this is a sweet motor.

Thanks a lot guys. Reason i didn't do a z3 pump was cost. I couldn't afford a new pump and a new oil pan. still looking at clutchs, havn't decided. I have a lot of little things i have to buy first. headgasket, seals, timing chain.....

No boost. compression will be around 11.7/1 with the coated 11.5/1 cp pistons and the cleaned up block and head. All motor, maybe a little NOS.:mwink:

i'd like to see a ferrea valve train in this bish with a z3 or a1 pump revving to a million and one.
I saw a really nasty picture of an a1 block that had been mated to a a2 head. The sleeve in cylinder 1 was completely crumbled, looked like the car blew chunks.
guy said he revved it to 8k, so that kinda scares me.

something had to have failed in that motor, or he must have down shifted to fast. I'm pretty sure the sleeves dont mind 8k. unless it's not properly cooled.
There is always something else to the story that they don't tell you. Such as he held the motor at 8k for to long of a time. or it wasn't tuned good and leaned out so much when he lifted off the gas, that it detonated.

8k will be the limit, for this beast. Its a good motor, but no need to push it harder then i should. more then likely it will never see above 7.6k.

Deadphishy
06-20-2008, 09:10 AM
dyno number arnt my main goal with the motor. using the tsx head and a 25 deg limited tsx VTC gear, with the type s cams and springs wont yeild a lot of high end hp. my exhuast is going to be a major restriction up top as well.
with that said, the motor will respond to mods like crazy. better exhaust, cams, ported head....and were talking closer to 300 whp......

i would be happy with 220.

So i'm about to do another round of buying stuff. Let me know what you guess think

K24a2 timing chain (Its more money then the k24a1 dunno why?..)

k24a2 chain tensioner (running stock cams, no need for a modded one)

Cometic .030 mls 87mm head gasket for about $75.00

ARP head studs for about $125.00

Already got the seals for the water pump and chain case coming from majestic.

I'm still thinking about running a TSX 6th gear, but i have yet to find out everything that is required to drop it into the 5 speeds case.

I have the injectors. They are the 270s that came with the k24a1 and i will be modding doing the screen grinding mod to get them close to 500s

can you explain how the screen grinding mod is performed??

Deadphishy
07-11-2008, 06:37 PM
Modded some 270 injectors today. First time i tried taking off the cover i cracked it. But then i started using a 9mm wrench to wiggle them off. Good thing i had some extra 310 injectors to steal a cover from.

i posted that sometime ago with only 350 miles on the clock with the new setup. since then i did a little drive from central jersey down to miami, taking the scenic route back up--went up to greenville sc, then out to us 129 to do some dragon slaying:mtongue:, then back up 95 home. logged about 3000 miles there. no issues whatsoever:mcool:

She looks pretty, so clean.

The $300 was for honing I'm guessing? Is that an a4 or a2 block?

What redline are you thinking with that a1 oil pump?

Interested in your k20a2 part out.

a1 block.
redline is 8k on race days 7.5k daily.
nope. I paid 300 for the whole motor. guy needed it gone, and it had a knock. we thought it was a spun bearing. turned out to be a chipped intake valve.

When's the dyno?

Deadphishy
08-25-2008, 02:01 PM
The motor will be broken-in in stages.
0-100 miles on a TSX map with added fuel and retarded timing (no vtec)
100-500 on light street tuned map (no vtec)
500-1000 miles re street tuned map low RPM Vtec testing/breaking in
1000+ miles street tuned no hard driving untill the dyno tune
Dyno tune when i can get in.
more then likely im going to pure tuning in toledo ohio.

75 miles, and running stronger.

I removed the sway bar last night, and i still have some exhuast issues to work out. Motor knocks a bit even though i've taken a fair amount of timing out. It also seems to run lean on the part throttle stuff, so i've added a ton of fuel.

I'm going to have my work cut out when it comes time to dial this thing in...

I'm curious, do you hear the knock or see it in Kpro (or do you have the MIL set up to flash)? How much ignition are you running?

I don't hear any knocks. I just see them in kpro. (and the flashing MIL) It seems to really knock at 2.5-3k during light acelleration in any given 5 mile city drive ill rack up about 60 knocks. sometimes more sometimes less.

Did a lot of tuning today. Went back to the stock TSX map and started fresh. Added a lot of fuel, then i only needed to take out a small amount of timing for low RPM stuff. I put in the 270 modded to 490 injectors, and once this tank is done, i'm going to E85 for the Cooling and higher Octain. We have a few stations here in metro detroit now.

Will 490's be enough for E85 @ the power you're making? How much do you think you're making?

Any problems running the a1 pump?

Don't know yet if the injectors are big enough. And i havn't had any issues with the pump yet but i havn't been beating on it.

Also the coolant fitting i show ended up being to big and hit the TB. So i ordered a 90deg fitting from Summit racing.

I think i'm going to pick up the Hytech III cams on k20a.org and drop those in before i get it tuned. I feel they are a great choice because of the lack of Lift. The are only .506 lift. And the duration increase will help feed this bigger motor.

I just don't know what valve springs to get. My motor won't be spinning higher then 8k. It has 2003 type s springs in it now.

SP33D FREAK
09-09-2008, 10:30 AM
i should note if you do get hytech cams....ur kpro will sense knock counts... buts its false knock... just get some headphones to listen to see if its really coming from the bottomend if it is not coming from the bottomend just disable your Knock Sensor in KPRO

I'm back, and so will my k24 soon!

So i spun a rod bearing in this motor, and i'm currently working on getting it back together.

A few things to note about the old motor. All of the knock trouble i had was simply because my machine shop thought it was ok to bore my cylinders out to a .01 inch piston to wall clearance. That is only 3 times more then i asked for.

Second, because of this i had to get new pistons.

I am on a budget so, I went ahead and picked up some supertech 12.5:1 pistons and rings.
