View Full Version : Shifting early bad for the tranny/engine?

Is it bad for the engine or the transmission to shift early like say 2000 or 2500? Also does the engine have to work harder like for instance your going 25mph and your in 4th gear..... should I really be in like 2nd or 3rd where the engine is working at full optimization?. Is that bad or what? I just really wanna take care of the motor! I mean occasionally I will let it rip once in awhile!!... lol.

shift at 3500. Anything below that and the engine has trouble over coming inertia when it hits the next gear and that isn't very good =\ Also, you accelerate really slow in those low RPMs

Shifting @ low RPM's places a geat deal of load on the engine & trans. Shifting b/w 3,500-5,000Rpm will reduce the amount of load. By bogging doen the motor, you will notice a decrease in fuel economy also. If you have KPRO, tace a look at the "CLV"(calculated load value) & you'll see what I mean.

thats just because your vtech hasnt kicked in, wait a few thousand more rpms and wow. or if your impatient get a vtech controller, lower your vtech and hang on.

me being the loser that i am read the manual the other day and it says the exact ideal shift speeds(in mph) i thought it was pretty funny but i think these speeds occur WAY before 3500rpm....

Nope. The speeds listed in the manual are very close to 3.5k on the stock gear ratios and tires.
