So I just picked up a set of Volk GT-U's (first gen) and they are 17x7 +40. Right now My stocks are on and the rear almost rubs (about 1 finger gap) cuz my suspension setup. Since I'm going a half inch wider and a full inch taller from stock I'm going to need a little more clearance to make sure the tire doesn't hit the fender. What size tire should I get to make sure there is ABSOLUTELY no rub at all. I really don't want to spend all this money on wheels/tires to have them rub and blowout.
thanks in advance

that's what I have been hearing, guess I'll give it a shot. Thanks cow
I ran that size on one of my wheel sets-- I've got to say, if you can fit 215-45s, it'd be preferable. The added sidewall really helps the ride comfort.

I'm just worried about rub in the back, the fronts are fine I can just put the dspecs on full stiff up front. I used to have 18s but with the small sidewall they were just as tall as stock but .5in wider and they rubbed hard and I had to sell them. As long as I can get the total hight to be a little smaller than stock I won't rub. I would roll my fenders but I don't know anyone reputable enough that's local.
Just roll the fenders yourself. It's not hard at all.
I got my kit from http://www.rollyourfender.com/, did mine, then shipped it back to them.

I'll test fit them with the 215/40s and if that doesn't work than I'll roll em, these are only going to be my seasonal wheels, the stockies will be on for half the year.
