View Full Version : Timing the Oil Pump

Well let me start by saying i thought i took enough pictures while taking my k24 apart but i guess i didn't.

I need to know what markings to time my k24a1 oil pump with.
The gear on the crank has an arrow (to line up the peg on the gear and whole on the crank for TDC)
and a line below one of the teeth.

The gear on the pump has a depressed dot on one of the teeth.

The chain has a section with two dark links, and then one half link prox half way down.

this is how i timed it as of know.
If it is wrong let me know please. Thanks

I believe that's correct. If you notice, there's an arrow on the body of the oil pump as well that should line up with the dot when everything is in place.

You probably still want to get confirmation from someone with a Helms.

I have a helms

It's junk when it comes to things like this. I have a civic helms and the DOHC sections are footnotes comparied too all the SOHC stuff, they should be two different books if they are going to leave out some much information. I suppose i should buy a CRV helms

HUH?

Well if you have a Helms as you described, then it isnt a EP3 Helms. They are specific for each year and model and there is absolutely no mention of a SOHC in the EP3 Helms. The oil pump timing is very easy if you follow the Helms(the A3 and K24 oil pumps are the same and are timed the same).

Just download the EP3 Helms manual here. http://ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43633

Thats the same as trying to fix a Boeing 747 with a manual for a Boeing B-17........

I was thinking the same. My ep3 manual is chassis specific and so is the RSX manual I have. There's no such thing as an SOHC ep3.

I think he means to say he's got a Haynes manual. :mtongue:

Well i looked, couldn't find anything. I didn't read all 1163 pages just the Oil pump, head/cam, and other sections that looked relative.

Only thing i saw was to have the motor at TDC and then turn the oil pump to a specific spot and lock it in place with a 6mm bar....

Maybe thats it.

If you use a balance shaft equipped oil pump like the K24A2/K20A3/K20Z3 then yes, it has to be timed or you could amplify vibrations tremendously rather than eliminate them.

So i took another shot at it tonight. I set the motor to TDC, and then aligned the mark on the oil pump gear to the arrow on the oil pump housing( leaving the balance weights all the way at the bottom of thier rotation, or at 270 degs for those math people.). then i took the chain and lined up the dark links, and it turned out to have worked. one dark link on the crankshaft gear between the two marks for TDC, and the double link over the mark o the oil pump.

ill have pictures soon. right now my internet doesnt work.
