lights and fabric question

I have a red neon light that I've had for minute and never hooked it up. Its one of those lights that you plug into your lighter, it also has an on and off button. I dont want to use the lighter to plug it in. My question is can I cut the lighter inlet off and splice the wires into a power source?

If this is all possible what power sources can I use inside the car and/or in the trunk.

yes
all you need is a 12v power source, so just about anyting
headlights, brake lights, fuse box.

They sell that same carpet in wallmart in grey, black, and tan. I have never seen it in red but if that brand is carried in wallmart im sure the red couldnt be too hard to find
