I'm checking out these 2 cars tomorrow and if both look mechanically fine, which should I go for?

Option 1: Asking price $7,600
2002 SSM Civic Si.
Mileage: 89k
CarFax: 3 owners total, No accidents
Mods: JDM yellow foglights
1.6 inch drop on Eibach pro springs (also will include original)
15" black rota slips
12k HID's
20% tints all around
AEM cold air intake
2.5 inch muffler

or Option 2:Asking price $12,000
NHBP 2004 Civic Si
Mileage: 37k
Carfax: 1 owner, no accidents
Mods: Unknown. From pics, looks like 08 Civic wheels, mugen shift boot?, and for some reason the I-VTEC sticker looks higher than stock so may have had type r skirts but removed? Idk.

I'm not sure which I want to buy. Yeah I know the choices are quite different, but I'm debating as to whether I should buy the cheaper SSM one and use the rest of the money for mods/paint (I want TW or Rallye Red) or buy the most likely safer one with only 1 owner, low miles, and 5-lug :), but then have no money for any mods for like a year.

What you guys think? (FYI $12k is basically my budget)

go wit the 04. less miles, less mods. also, if you ever want to repaint you car, having a NHBP is the best. You can leave ur engine bay black.

both car look clean and not riced, but if you can't find a stock one it all depends on what you want to do with it. If you're going to swap and paint and all that fun stuff any way, go with the ssm. If you need a fun car to go to work in, get the NHBP and just replace stuff as it wears out in 70k miles. Either way it looks like a good problem to have. When I bought my EP there were only 2 for sale in 100 miles

I'd go with option 2, less miles and probably less molested.

I agree with the people saying the 04. The 02 seems to be the year that has the most issues.

I would go with option #2.

You should be able to get it for less than 12k though.

i say go for the ssm swap it, 5-lug conversion, whatever...

btw i have an 02 with 118k and a broken axle has been the biggest issue ive had to deal with so far and that was prob my fault

Well I'm sure most of you guys will be disappointed, but I went with the SSM. I didn't even get a chance to meet up with the NHBP guy because he just decided to stop responding to me. Oh and I might have the worst luck ever.

I write down the mileage on the title, to bring to the DMV to get it registered. I get to the line, lady says, you need to get a new title. I was like huh? She says, the mileage has been written on. I looked at it, and I saw that I wrote the "8" in 86,XXX a little thick making it kinda look like I tampered with it. So now I can't even drive it and have to wait till the original owner gets a duplicate title for me. All because of a stupid "8"

Well I'm sure most of you guys will be disappointed, but I went with the SSM.

It looks nice, just kind of high mileage.

At least the SSM will be easier to keep clean than the NHBP. :mcool:
