Gonna try the Lysol method of blowing through the system.... but where exactly does the a/c system suck air from? Right below the windshield?

Yes. Right in the venting below the windshield.

Did the carpet get wet and then the car closed tight in the hot sun? Is it only when the A.C is on?

I remember reading about a problem some lady had with her volvo. It turned out that a rodent crawled up into the duct system and died.

i've heard of the rodent thing as well. happened to my sister in law. she actually bumped her knee guard in her buik skylark and the underside fell down as well...along with a entire nest/litter of mice. yeah imagine that shit lol. anyhoo, clean, spray and hopefully call it a day.

So I did the lysol in the air intake vents the other day and it seems to have worked..... car doesn't really stink of lysol "fresh linen" either so I'm happy.

I'll update in a week or two.... lets hope it lasts.

Make sure the evaporator drain isn't clogged, sometimes the drain gets leaves and stuff in it and a small amount of water can stay inside the evaporatot housing and get moldy. Mine was stinking too, even though a lot of water dripped out when the A/C was on it still had a small blockage. A piece of metal coat hanger fixed it. Also run the system with the fan on high and the Re-Circulation button OFF for a week or so, this way it pulls in fresh air and helps kill the moldy smell.

Found garlic in mine once....long story . I folded a fabric softener sheet and placed it between the 2 cabin filters. Worked well and wasn't overbearing.

This is a common problem on all cars. Most dealers correct the problem by shooting some kind of antibacterial spray into the air box where the air recirculates. It's hard to explain what it looks like, but I'd venture to guess it's behind your glove box and is under those cabin filters. The proper method is to set the fans on 4, turn on FULL heat, AC off, and recirculate. Shoot the cleaner in 3 second intervals, when done, leave the car on with the heat going and everything, close up the car and let it run for 10 minutes or so.

It's the condensation on the cooling coils that the air passes over, it causes molds to grow, after it cools they stop stinkin. I sure wish I knew a way to clean those coils :D

My dad always told me that after using the a/c, turn it off and just run the fan for 10 seconds or so till all the leftover air conditioned air is out of the vents. I've done this religously and the 5 years i've owned my ep, never a smell.

Or turn off A/C about 5 Minutes before you leave your car and stop engine...

But dont forget, that filter behind glove box must be changed from time to time...

My car smells since last week and I turned A/C of the right way...just replaced yesterday this 2 filters and everything is OK right now.

bingo. usually this happens to cars when they always have their system on recirculate. when i'm not using my a/c or fan, i have recirculate off, so i can get outside air in. there was just one period when it started to stink and then went back to having recirculate off. it went away and haven't had a problem since. i've had my ep for 6 years now.
