Which of these products would have the best results, if I was just applying it by hand?

You shouldn't use rubbing compound on a car with a clear coat. Rubbing compound can damage or remove the clear coat and paint. If it says "clear coat safe" then it's not true rubbing compound, and it's most likely a abrasive wax.

I have both the 3M and the TurtleWax rubbing compound. I can't tell the difference, but that may be because my car is silver. Silver never gets dirty, but never gets super clean either (curse and a blessing I guess...)

It's really difficult to get good results by hand.

If you need to do it by hand I would probably go for Meguiar's Scratch X (designed to be used by hand) or any sort of glaze. A glaze has fillers that will "fill in" scratches. You would apply wax or sealant over the glaze. I believe that step 2 in the Meguiar's and Mother's 3 step systems are glazes.

i have tried two of those and they are not worth anything. i guess it all depends on what u are using it for, if u are trying to remove acid rain and fine scraches forget the stuff u can buy at the auto parts place do ur research online. there are lots of sites that sell nothing but polishes and sealers and waxes and they even have forums and faq's

I used meguiars scratch x with great results, but it didn't last very long with only 1 coat of wax over it.

It's actually for removing the 2000 grit wet sanding from my headlights.

ahh i used the 3m ones when i did my headlights, did it by hand also and didn't long to get the 2000grit scratches out. I also used the turtle wax before on the same thing, same results but took longer. 3m cuts better.

Ok, cool. I guess I'll go pick up some 3M then. Can't wait to see the results after having my headlights look like this for a while now, It's an eye sore. Thanks.

I'd definitely go with the 3m perfect-it number 1.

3m has several different compounds but the white bottle is the one to go with oppse to the blue or purple cuts.

To get the full effect, you almost MUST use an electric buffer with this stuff to see professional results.

Yea just be sure you don't use a poor quality buffer either...

I have an automotive professional series black and decker and have a dewalt general purpose buffer.

The automotive series buffers have always seemed to put out a way nicer job and i'd say it's a great investment for anyone who is super anal about they're ride!
