For what you need it for it doesnt matter.. The differences are in the emissions, exhaust manifold. The block and internals are the same. cams are the same and sensors are the same also.

I recall a thread from a few years ago, of one taking a a2 oil pump as a direct bolt on, the other required some trimming.

The K24A1 blocks are all the same and use the same forgings(as mentioned before it is the ancillary items that are different), what you are thinking of is that the K24A1 is a direct bolton for the A2 pump while the K24A4 requires some modifications due to the extra 8mm on the main bearing caps.

I had to modify my a2 pump to fit on my k24a1.

Yes some need to mod the K20a2 oil pump to clear the girdle and some don’t. I was under the impression this was due to the two different version of the K24A1 (England made vs. Japan made).
