so as some of you know i messed up my tranny about a week and a half ago. 3rd gear had been grinding for a while and it was getting progressively worse over time. 4th gear took a shit on me and i was driving around with 1,2,3,5, and 6 for a few days till the tranny was taken down and examined.

i've ordered the sleeve set for gears 3-4. here are the pics of the tear down of the tranny and the damage.

taking the tranny down was the biggest mission ever. the ep3/dc5 chassis has such a small engine bay and not much space to work with. next time i'm just going to remove the entire engine. it makes life much easier.

i'll update this thread when i get the parts in later this week.

while your in there you should toss in a tsx 6th :mangel:
would there be enough torque in an a2 to make that reasonable? a 4.3 fd with that tall as sin 6th would have you cruising at some amazingly low rpms at 80+

the swap had 105k miles according to the carfax report. i've put about 5k miles on the motor since the swap.

yeah a tsx 6th would be great for cruising. the 06+ civic si's have the same 6th gear with a 4.7 final drive.

i don't have the money for that right now though. i just need to get the car running. according to the tracking number i should be getting the sleeve set today.

so i finished the rebuild last week wednesday. i drove it wednesday night and i had trouble the third gear. i couldn't downshift into third without major grinding. third would grind a lot.

so the tranny was taken apart again last friday. i found the problem. the honda dealer sent me the sleeve set with the newer style synchros. for some reason though, the newer style synchros were what was giving me problems. it wouldn't let the gear engage properly. so we replaced the new synchros with the new synchros. what broken and needed to be replaced was the ring that i posted a pic of in the first post.

there's a picture here with the newer style synchros and the older style side by side. the newer ones have a different design on the inside and it's black.

well enough talk. onto the pics!
