Type R tire size is 205/45R17 and they come with Bridgestone Potenza.

that sounds like good rubber size, but why do they recommend 215 45 17(tirerack)?

I'm sure the Civic is callibrated from factory with whatever the tire size is. The reason Tire Rack will recommend the 215's is so it's does not mess up our speedometer too much, if anything at all.

215s are wider than 205s, better ground coverage = more grip. Shouldn't affect the speedo.

Oh yeah, that is correct. I wonder why Honda decided to go with 205' for the Type R.

wider is better for traction, but won't it take longer to accelerate off the line w/215 as to 205's? 215's= more weight around all four corners. putting 205(17") will affect the speedo?

My 215/45/17s from tirerack work very well and my speedo is very accurate according to the in town speed radar display things you see. I was doing 20mph and it read 20mph as well. :)

I think these numbers are right

stock tire: 862 revs/mile
michelin pilot sport, 215/45/17: 841 revs/mile
michelin pilot sport, 215/45/16: 874 revs/mile

the 17's aren't far off, but the 16's sound interesting!
