Next thing i know my CEL is on, Battery light is on, Car is driving fine, next thing you know, A guy driving next to me is yelling at me, "HEY YOURE SMOKING!!"...I pull over at the next exit and i see my engine bay smoking.. :(

Idler Pulley bolts snapped like Katman's thread. I was using aircraft grade bolts too! When it snapped, the belt snapped with it too...Running no

Coolant was everywhere i decided to get the car towed. Motor only had about 300 miles on it

Maybe someone can help me. Im running this k24 frank in my ep3. Setup is:

K24a1 CRV Block
K20a2 Head
EP3 Water Pump
EP3 Alternator
EP3 AC
EP3 Idler Pulley/Auto Tensioner

Was running a stock ep3 size belt. This is the one i had bought.

Damn that sucks. I know the feeling! I had that exact same thing happen to me before.

BTW that's a nice setup. What did you dyno at with that?

I prefer the Gates belt.

Also how many miles on the tensioner?
When the spring tension becomes lax within the tensioner, the belt and tensioner starts oscillating and that can cause the idler to fail.

If the belt is slack, ie too long, I just place washers between the alternator and block to act as spacers. You only need 1 or 2. The washers will gain you twice their thickness on the wear indicator gauge.

Tensioner has less 88k miles on it. I can send you pics, its still in good shape.

I think the belts really tight on there. What size belt should I be using? Or am i using the right belt? Gates belt..where can i get it? Part number? Oh i am using the EP3 Crank pulley too.

its all stock OEM internals...

CRV block w/ all oem internals
A2 head
A2 pump

i ran 219whp, 180tq at bisimoto's dynapack (it reads about 30hp less than churches) Took a good 4 hours but it was well worth it. I hope to get more with some breather mods, it stopped breathing at 7500rpm, it was like a K motor running a 400m with ciggarette lungs.

This is the belt I have been useing
http://www.napaonline.com/NOLPPSE/(S(w20tz055to4y5x45j2keme55))/Detail.aspx?A=NBHHXSB070653_0170663813&An=599001+102004+50032+2032006+25002+3032052+39999 99

I have seen tensioners go in less time, mine started on the A3 at about 95K miles and went at 109Kmiles and then I got only 56K miles on my A2 before it went.

back from the dead. Talon, your pn doesn't work on their website. I only found NBH 25070653(serpentine belt) with a 65.93" circumfernce. Is that the right one?

thanks.

Not sure there site and #'s changed a bunch they probably just dropped the prefix. BUT I know I posted up on several belts that I have used recently.

BUT, the failure that the TS had seen is easily recitfied and prevented from ever happening again with a TXR idler brace.

the very top if you're looking at the motor, is the idler pulley. you usually have to replace the bracket (honda only as far as i know) and the pulley from any auto parts store...usually $30

Make sure to use brand new grade 8 bolts when reinstalling the idler pulley bracket.
