For those wondering what I mean, this is what I'm referring too:

Think this looks great as it's still 2-tone, but not as drastic as the silver/black that comes stock.

Anyone have a write up on what to use and how to do it? I've died plastics before but I'm not sure if this plastic will bite the same as exterior plastics.

I used Plasti Dip spray can and the outcome is rubbery... similar to stock..

it's been about 5 months and still holding strong....

Is he on this board?

Skoo74, that looks great! Nice job!

I think I would try SEM black plastic dye, but only after scratching the surface up with some 400grit followed by all the stages in between upto 1500 grit. Want to leave some bite.

That's an OLD pic of my dash....lol.

It's very simple to do.

First thing after removal is cleaning. I used a degreaser called Quik Kleen. It removes all the hand oils, armor all, boogers, etc that might hinder paint sticking. It goes on with a rag and just wipes on.

After that, I took a 2000 grit sponge (local auto paint store) and wet sanded it. This just GENTLY roughed it up so the paint has something to stick to.

Next is some Bulldog brand adhesion promotor. This is exactly what the name implies.

SEM brand spray paint in Landau Black was sprayed as a final touch. It is a flat black with a VERY light gloss. Looks 100% oem.

To test it, I had my wife try to scrape it off with her nails. Nothing. Holds perfect.

I might have $30-40 in materials. I did ALL of my grey interior panels in the same manor.

And here is the most recent interior pic:

Ive actually done this in my 88 STD hatch before...went with a CRX dash so everything went to black i think i still have the CRX dash sitting in a storage shed. After a few years got a parts car and went back to a civic dash with the center console for the hatch and all so no need for the black stuff but it held up well...I didnt use the adhesion promoter wish i would have a few parts needed it

One of last years Clarion's. It has custom illumination controls, so it easily blends in with the ep3 lighting...
