Damn well that frickin sucks, how much are they usually, cuz my five speed one went out then I baught another one because someone on k20a.org told me they were the same. So I have this clicking because the damn speed sensor isn't lining up correctly with the speed ring?

Problem is, I baught this tranny off of ebay for 500 bucks, freshly rebuilt but sucks that he didn't supply me with the proper vss. Awesome thank you for that link and price.

Damn guess I need to figure out how to block it off till my type-s sensor comes in.

there is a C-clip holding the spacer and gear onto the vss, just remove that and it all slides out. then replace as usual

you will have a 5k redline
engine in limp mode
and no speedo gauge movement (dur)

But the Type-S VSS still plugs into the EP3 harness right?

Is there any other way do you think of making it work for just a little before the part comes in or should I just not drive it and drive my other car till the part comes in.

In the header it appears you are asking about a 06 trans, which uses the new high freq vss. Unless you switch trans cases you need to use a convertor to get speedo, vtec, etc to work. The 05-06 trans use a hall effect sensor in place of the low freq like 02-04 s and ep3 trans.

civicSIracer

no its an 04 trans... anyone know if the rsxs guts will fit into the ep trans caseing?

whitt
09-09-2008, 09:01 PM
Yes guts will transfer. My bad about the thinking it was a newer trans, just saw the 6 and the question about the speedo etc.

ohhh man that sucks

yeah the cap at 5,000 RPM was intermittent. i drove my car w/o the VSS for a while b/c, like your exact same situation, the seller didn't provide the type-s VSS. sometimes my car would let hit the fuel cut at ~6,500 rpm (at most) and sometimes it'll stop at 5,000 rpm when i was driving w/o the VSS....

after getting all my CELs fixed (i had a broken primary o2 sensor, too), my car's running like a champ:mcool: i redline just the same as if i had my 5 speed and the speedometer works flawlessly with the new OEM 04 type-s VSS i bought (the same one paulmofyourhand posted)

would this suggestion also apply if I am using an ep3 speed sensor on a type-r tranny with a 5.0 final drive? My speedometer is off by about 5%, which I thought was due to the gear.

classiccelica

That is about what mine is off by at highway speeds everything should work correctly assuming your tire size is the same as the type-s and all. My speed sensor is coming on the 16th this blows.

Really? is it saying 80, when you are really doing 75ish??

classiccelica

Yeah that is what I feel at least. I paced my mom on the highway she was doing 65 and I was doing 70mph. I really hope this 03 type-s speed sensor works at giving me the correct speed.

i just got my swap done.. 80 on the freeway feels like 70ish.. i used a vss off a dc5 itr trans. same as the rsxs one.
