Nice Hazard Button. Didn't think anyone else knew about them :)

It's from an Element (Black>Red w/CF kit)

The knob is a Base RSX or FIT option knob (like a CTR but egg shaped and the paint is black)

Kerby
03-29-2010, 06:12 PM
I got it from KingMotorsports, but because it is from the current mugen fit you can get it at any Honda dealership. It'll be less expensive too. maybe $5-10 depending how much they charge for shipping. Shop around. Ive seen them as low as $94.00 not includingshipping.

but get it either from a dealership or king. Then you KNOW without a shadow of a doubt it's not a replica.

Mine came with the CF. Its ok, its nothing I really ever notice unless someone brings it up. I dont know if I'd spend the extra money for it, I'd just paint it black or something.

Why.. oh why. did we not get a normal shift boot? I mean. . no red carpets I can see why.. no K20A.. I can understand(not really).. but some funky shift boot that was made to not look flush with aftermarket knobs in a sporty car like the Si? I will never understand Hondas ways, But I guess I can give kudos for giving us legit type-r chairs which sort of makes the shift boot they gave us hypocritical dont you think? lol

Any way.. I got a 5 speed metal knob that I dont know where it came from.. I'll snap a pic later.

im thinking about either, filing down the plastic collar peice so it can fit around the bottom of the knob, and put tape on it to stay, or measure the bottom of the knob, get some pbc pipe that fits the diameter, cut it to about the same size as the boot collar, and paint it black. dunno

Could someone give me some dimensions on their shift knobs? I'm trying to learn how to use both a metal and a wood lathe, and wanted to make a knob for something to learn on. I'll first try wood, then move onto metal (maybe aluminum or brass), so even if the knob doesn't turn out all that well, it's still learning a new tool.

Anyways, I want to first try a spherical knob, so if anyone could give the the diameters of the Fit Mugen knob, the FD2 type R knob, or the BC Type A knob. I'll go with something that feels the best at the end, but need a starting point to set up the jig. Codyep3, you said it's 2" in diameter, which looks pretty good.

Thanks! And thanks to Myspacep3 for the bolt size: 10x5.1mm

That's what's up. I actually made my Mugen knock off in ver. A and B that way. I will have to try and dig up the specs I used. Any CNC machines as well?

I'm a senior architecture major at UB, and since this is my last semester here I want to use the tools in the wood and metal shop that I never got a chance to. We do have a CNC plasma cutter for metal plate, and a 6-axis CNC that's used for foam and wood, I don't think metal though. Never really had a chance to fully utilize the digital fabrication tools as much as I could. More focused on the shop, I've been building some simple furniture and now want to get into the metal tools.

Only thing I haven't figured out is if I want a logo or shift pattern on the knob. I could laser cut a template and then sandblast it on, or if I could find a good honda pin (like from the civics in the 1970s), make an inlay.

KaeDu
02-03-2011, 05:36 PM
Inlay all the way, however like you said they can be hard to find. If you have a good sand baster/ etching machine it can turn out perfect. I made one out of Deralin and the other was Billet Aluminum with a piece of steel inside.

I just got mine a week or 2 ago and it is indeed very small. 2 inch diameter. Only downside is that the threads start in the middle of the ball, not at the bottom. Didnt know I can't use an aftermarket shift boot keeper.

Speedstar racing (our vendor on here) has a nice one.

*countersunk, as you know it sits nice and low on the shifter.
*no shift legend on top of knob...so much better without the number grid cuz it looks cleaner and you dont have to line up the numbers with a nut on the bottom which in turn raises the shift height of the knob/doesnt look good.
*Small ball design perfect for any size hand and while not paperweight heavy ie. Skunk2 and not chicken nugget light ie Spoon ti....its the perfect weight for positive shift engagement while still retaining the "precise" shift feel at the same time. Best of both worlds.
*$40 if im not mistaken, not too bad in price.

I have one myself and its one of my favorite knobs along with my T1R knob.

Password:JDM BrassKnuckle Shift Knobs for Heavy Hitters! You know, for those of you who have Paul Bunion power... The BrassKnuckle Knobs is now only available in 420 gram shorty size. There are advantages to having a weighted shift knob, especially on D and B series trannies. Also, most racers like having a heavy knob, its a better counterweight and the shift is easier.

Threaded to a metric10x1.5, this shift knob will fit many other vehicles besides Honda's.

Optimally balanced to 6.1oz.
Ergonomically designed for the perfect driving feel
Color matched options
PWJDM designed, engineered, and manufactured in-house
Anodized billet 6061, Made in the USA
Metric 10x1.5 pitch
Will fit Honda's and other vehicles with the same thread size.

Note: 530 gram standard knob discontinued (the one on the left)

This is another option if you want a heavy weighted knob.

That's what I have right now. Love it! Like the weight and the feel. Doesn't get too hot in the sun, not sure how its going to be in winter. But definitely a great shift knob!

take your boot off and wrap a bunch of electrical tape around the shift arm in the right spot, it'll hold your boot tight up against the knob:)

Or spend the $60 for the ctr boot and it stays up on its own.

i would rather put $60 into something else when you can do it yourself and it looks just as good.

I personally didn't see a difference but the stupid stock ring kept tapping against my knob while rolling around.. I hated it so I spent the best $60 I have spent on this car since owning it..

you don't have to spend $60+ on a ctr shift boot. i bought mine for less than $25

here's my latest shifter shenanigans. i kinda knew the dash mounted shifter wouldn't do this setup justice but i went for it and i think it turned out alright.

hahaha i dont think this got the response it deserved!!! thats a crown royal bag? lmao thats awesome man keep rockin!

and i gotta be honest... i like the stock shift knob... the block leather and read stitching matches the steering wheel and the seats and its comfortable to hold while shifting at the angle our shifters create coming out of the dash console and such.. just imo but i do like that hks shifter

how do you guys deal with metal knobs on a hot day?
i had to switch to delrin since the aluminum would keep burning the shit out of my hand.

my s2 stainless was epic hot. i had to use something to grab it.

i just got this one, i'll probably keep a custom sock over it during the summer. or windshield cover thing, since i have all my windows tinted.

That's why you gotta get yourself a TSX or S2000 knob, they have leather wrapped around most of the shift knob except for the top, but they're teardrop shaped like the Type-R knobs and weighted perfectly.. Best of both worlds, IMO.

Mine got too hot, so I went with a leather one.
err.. I think it's synthetic.. haha

i think i'm gonna try to make a weighted delrin knob at my work. maybe with some weight inserts or something.
i like the weight of some of the metal knobs, just hate how hot it can get.

i never tried a leather knob but probably doesnt get as hot as metal.

This is 100% legit! Found a used one on CL, if that falls through I'm gonna put an order through HandA for a new one. Just over $100 but I think OEM is worth it!
