Agreed with dirtyMETHOD, that color looks great. Its what the USDM OEM covers should have looked like.

I didnt clear it at all, like I said before after I layed the base I was going to wetsand and clear it but I liked the raw metallic finish. I didnt want it to be super glossy and showy.

Thanks dude, I agree. I was actually considering painting it the OEM silver color before I found this. I wanted the VC to not be the focal point of the bay like my yellow one was.

What do you want the focal point to be? I feel like my bay is a little too busy. But I love my Type-R cover. I've been considering trading my ARC box for a Mugen box, I think that'd help tone things down a bit.

Nothing imparticular, I guess is my idea. I want the overall cleanliness and small touches to be noticed more than just a valve cover. Anyone cant paint a nice VC ya know? Also I feel like its reminiscent of the Realtime cars...

Good point. I was looking at the pictures and taking in everything, I think it looks pretty prime right now. I like the Spoon oil cap against the new color especially. The dress up bolts look kick ass too. Any plans for an intake down the road?

Yeah theres still alot I want to do to clean up the bay and theres alot of new stuff in the works. Nothing major but it will be pretty badass nonetheless. Im actually working on a custom airbox right now. The mold is in very early stages so I dont see it being done anytime soon but its something to look forward to!

I like how it turned out. If you don't mind me asking what brand and type of paint did you use? I've got a TSX VC I want to repaint but I will go with a different color.

The only brand spraypaint I use is duplicolor. I usually use engine enamel but this color was the truck and suv paint. (also an enamel)

Cool thanks for the info. I'm going to check out O'reilly's later to see if they have they have it. I already have some VHT wrinkle red but I'm beginning to lean toward a smooth finish. By the way your engine bay looks immaculate compared to mine.

All of the pro level teams that run K series engines (Realtime, Davis, Opak, etc.) Run a spring even on NA application, so Im sure it would be even more useful on a boosted setup!

It's also to help with road vibrations not just internals spinning and churning stuff. I'm going to have to copy this because I'm like a Magpie when it comes to shiny things.

Looks great! This DIY just consist of removing the VC and painting. When removing the VC you just cover the valvetrain with a towl and reinstall? Also is the VC gasket reused or is that not a good idea?

Yeah when I took the valve cover off I layed some shop paper towels over the valve train and closed the hood. I didnt replace my gasket this time because I replaced it when I painted it yellow last year. If its still the original gasket I would replace it though.
Im gonna be painting mine yet again, I decided on wrinkle black and Ill be doing a breather setup aswell.

I might be wrong, but sometimes the dip stick is a little loose. Maybe for it to just be more secure....

Under extended high rpm conditions k motors tend to pop their dipsticks

I would just paint with black wrinkle then spray blue over it. just do light coats, dont lay it on too thick.

thats a great idea,
it just happens that I still have a can of wrinkle black from vht
I havent used them yet, 1 can should be enough right?
when you say do light coats, you talking about the blue coat or the black coat
I read in your previous posts that you recommend duplicolor engine paint right?
Im gonna look for a color thats as close to the spoon blue as possible
Im a spoon convert...I'll start off the spoon collection with the most affordable pieces the resevior socks

Yeah use duplicolor if they have a blue you like. I was talking about laying the blue on this so it doesnt fill in the wrinkle finish from the black vht.

umm I think I used a 1/8 drill bit on the dipstick and I got the spring from the local
ace hardware. The only thing you will need to figure out is how to attach it to the manifold.
