what you think about adding a front lip to the HFP front bumper? I haven't seen that yet

is that the Volvo lip or home depot?

No plans to swap anytime soon, just bolt-ons and a 6spd hopefully with LSD, but even that wont be for a while.

Thanks, yeah its a volvo lip. I think I saw someone do a thin garage door lip on an HFP bumper and it was EH... I think the HFP is fine as-is.

First update to the new thread :)

So I worked on the EP all day friday doing some spring cleaning and painting my valve cover. She got 2 coats of wax over the winter and was due for another so I washed, clay barred, and waxed her as well as the usual engine bay, interior and wheel detail.

I did the valve cover in a dark gunmetal color and decided not o clear because I liked how the satin finish looked natural. I also added a tension spring for the dip stick since the K series builds some crankcase pressure under racing conditions.

Hell yeah for FEEL's coilovers. I'm in the market for new suspension, but nothing that baller. I also need a new steering rack.. my creak is terrible and I think something may be broken. I'll have to see how the car drives with the new coilovers before I make a definitive decision on what to do with the steering rack.

I got a sick deal on them... so ballin on a budget :P

As far as I know the creak is due to parts in the rack rubbing when normally they wouldnt. Since this is the case there is no lubrication inside the accordian boots from the factory, but if you lube that slider under the boot up real good with some moly lube or assembly lube the creak should go away. I would try that first is you havent already. Its definitely worth a shot before you go looking for a new rack.

Yeah, I've been planning on trying that for some time as well. My only concern is that I was involved in a bit of an accident a few years back and I think the teeth inside the rack may have been chipped or damaged some how.

Also, do you think that zip ties will hold the accordian boots in place? That's what I think the DIY said, but I'm unsure if I wanna risk it.

Ahh I see, thats sucks dude. As far as the zip ties, they will be fine. Just make sure you use low profile cable ties to get a 360* seal...

Last but not least the spare manifold Ive been working on. Thanks to Andre (gtimportfanatic) for hooking me up with a spare manifold!
What Ive done is shave the 2 fins off as well as some other little unnecessary bumps in the mold. Ive also tapped the stock brake booster breather port to 3/8 npt and installed an AN fitting setup.

Thanks, yeah I painted it after shaving, I also painted the original and its been on there for 25k miles with no issues. I use duplicolor engine enamel on all my stuff it holds up great. The stock one will be on the car for a bit longer, and Andre has dibs since he gave me this one for free.

Wow, 245/40/17's!! I just got 235/40/17's and think they are massive. I'm surprised your putting those on a 7.5" rim. I was planning on mounting my 235's on a 7 inch rim but now I'm not sure after seeing them.

Edit: Now that I look at the Z1 specs, the 235's and 245's are almost identical.

235 = 8.5" tread width & 9.6" section width
245 = 8.5" tread width & 9.8" section width

235 = 8.5" tread width & 9.6" section width
245 = 8.5" tread width & 9.8" section width

The 245's are actually going on the 17x9's I already have, 2 of which are being replaced with the 17x7.5's with 225's.

Oh, IC.

Have any 17x8+ 4x100 used wheels kicking around the shop for me?

Actually, can wheels be widened? Could I get my 17x7's made into 17x8's?

Nah, the only 17's we use are for our Koni Challenge car and theyre 5x114.

You can have wheels widened, but it would be cheaper and easier to sell yours and pick up a set with the right sizing.

Another update for you guys

Its been an awesome week. I came home from Texas to a few packages, one of which Ive been waiting to get for quite some time...

The new footwork is FINALLY here - FEEL's dampers!
One is missing an adjusting knob but I found the company that manufactures them, so I can not only get spare knobs but also get them re-valved in the US for custom spring rates. This turned out to be a nice investment

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/sohonda_garage/P1080474copy.jpg

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/sohonda_garage/P1080476copy.jpg

.

.

I also got a couple more FEEL's goodies aswell as some 23mm front sway bar bushings brackets from Delray Acura

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/sohonda_garage/P1080484copy.jpg

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/sohonda_garage/P1080487copy.jpg

.

.

And then tonight I pressed the ITR ball joint sleeves out and replaced them with the King Motorsports RSX sleeves.
You can see in the first picture the ITR (left) has a larger inner diameter then the RSX. King machines these adapters so you can run the ITR control arms with EP3 or 02-04 RSX hubs.

yup spoon springs on stock shocks, except IMO it rides and handles like shit. It's way underdamped and bouncy. New coilovers should remedy that :)

Well after almost a week straight I bring you the update of all updates lol.....

Day1/Night1....

So Tuesday I got started on the car around 11am. Worked all through the night and took a quick nap around 7am for an hour or so. Heres what I got done...

-Stripped all the suspension from the car
-Cleaned and stripped undercoat from the fender wells
-Cleaned suspension components
-Layed down POR15 in fender wells, rear sub frame, and suspension components

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/sohonda_garage/P1080498copy.jpg

.

.

Once we got back I started installing all the fresh painted parts with some new hardware. I also fabbed up the tie rod opening covers you saw before.

The calipers are the only part that didn't get love yet, since I still need to get some stainless lines which aren't in the budget yet and will be a bit of a wait once they're ordered. Ill paint the calipers when the lines go in

Day 3

Got the car on the scales Wednesday night, aligned her and got the cross and F/R balance set. Car was weighed and set up with a full tank and no driver weight since its more a daily and will often have passengers.

Specs are as follows:

Camber: -3.0F -1.8R
Toe: 1/64 out all four wheels
Caster: About -6 degrees

As you can see cross weight is nice and centered at 50%. The F/R balance is decent, but as youll see in pictures the rear is a tad lower to transfer more weight back, I didnt want it to bag too bad in the back so I didnt bring it to 60/40.

Ah man, well if you're ever in the area you should come. You'd have a place to crash. I may take a trip out to watkins one of these days. Not this year though.

Yeah man Id love to drive the track, but Ive go other priorities than taking a trip like that unfortunately.

how did you apply the POR15? you brush it on or sprayed it?
I'm thinking of doing this this spring. How long did it take to dry?

I brushed it on. 3 coats with 3 hours between each coat, then it sat a day and a half as I installed the suspension before It hit the streets.

I got a question for you
I have an appointment to get an alignment and corner balance
the guy doing this is well known in SoCal
but one of my buddies was telling me not to go to him because he does not use a computer to do his alignment

Im not sure what exactly he uses but I think he told me he uses gauges and some hand tools
What do you think man, you think he can still do a great alignment and corner balance without a computer?

I didnt get a chance to go thru the whole thread yet but how did you make that cover in the wheel wells
what material did you use and how did you attache them to the inner wells

they look great
I need them since I dont have my fender liners

this car is truly amazing
the shit that you do to your car, no one else on ephatch does
the parts that you have are siickk

how the heck do you come up with all these ideas

He probably uses the same techniques and tools I use at my job. As you can see in the picture we use alignment strings instead of the laser rack that most dealers and alignment shops have. Theyre perfectly accurate as long as the operator is experienced and knows what hes doing. I think In the right hands its actually more accurate than a laser machine.

Those fender well covers are made out of some rubber mat I found at home depot, and I attatched them with 1/8" rivets.

Got the seat installed tonight! I wasnt able to use the Sparco side mounts since they need some modification to fit the seat, so Its bolted in on the BC mounts for now. Once I get some supplies together the seat will be coming out and Ill be adding and changing alot of things about the setup. Util then here are some pics! :)

Buddy Club Racing Spec seat rail, Hawk DTC-60 front pads and Porterfield R4 rear pads for track, and Sparco side mounts.

Not sure, But i do know there were 3 generations of this seat. Gen 1 was the same fabric with those floppy rubber harness hole grommets. Gen 2 (mine) was upgraded to use the hard plastic harness grommets and Gen 3 they switched over to a tweed like fabric which Im not really a fan of.

I dont think they do oficially but i'd say any bigger than a 32 and you're not fitting. I'm a 30 and it's perfect with a tiny bit of wiggle room. 32 would be a snug fit.

OHHHH SNAP!

Pics from the track day at Monticello Motor Club!

I loved the track, although it is setup for baller old guys to haul ass on the straights in their ferraris then cruise through the mid-low speed corners its still alot of fun. I liked the long back straight alot, downshifting 5-4-3 under threshold and trail braking was so sick. The car was amazing on track, I think the staggered setup really helped the car rotate under trail braking and mid turn throttle control, even with the stock rear sway.

thanks dude! Yeah I hate when people stagger wheels incorrectly. It would be one thing if hondas were like dubs and had
more room in the rear but there's less. It just doesn't make any sense lol. I was lucky and got
the car in very good condition so I didn't have to do much to keep the stitching looking fresh. I clean it with the foaming aersol window cleaner and a microfiber. I also use it to clean the seats and floor mats.

Nice man congrats! For interior plastics I use armorall original, but the trick is to apply it then buff it all off with a dry microfiber. This gets the armorall in the pores of the plastic to protect it and keep it looking even while avoiding the shiny greasy look.

Also got my 05 TypeS manifold and cat so Ill be getting to work on freshing those parts up soon too

Heres what I was working on after work for a bit today.

I finally unpacked the TypeS manifold and cat and immediately got to work. The runners are welded onto the flange from the inside, so to maximize efficiency I ground down the welds to smooth flow exiting the exhaust ports.

This thing is mint with only 27k miles :o

So finally have some pictures for you guys... Heres where Im at with my custom side mounts so far...

I picked up my conical washers and spacers from the machine shop the other day which allowed me to start work on the steel plates. The design will be similar to Mugen side mounts with the round spacers since the memory fab seat has a narrower base than the buddy club rails.

So far ive got one side bent and traced out, now I just need to cut off the access metal, clean up the edges and lay some satin black paint.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/sohonda_garage/P1080630.jpg

Here are the grade 8.8 316 stainless bolts, custom aluminum conical washers, and custom 316 stainless spacers.

Would you be able to cut an already bent part? Like the one pictured? I might be interested in doing this. It would be much easier and precise than doing it by hand.

Yeah i just have to focus on getting a car by next season. Starting work on my K24a2 and transmission build next weekend. I'm just waiting to pick up the block while dropping off the transmission. Main things i need to purchase right now is an LSD. Still need to decide whether to go with a 1.5way clutch type or helical.

I would do a helical. No maintenance, quieter, and more comfortable if the car is a daily driver. Id like to do a thorough 6spd build at some point. REM polished gears, ATS 2-3-4, ITR LSD.

Yeah i hear ya. This car won't be seeing too much street use, that is the only reason i am considering a clutch type. I may just order an MFactory helical or quaife though. Trying to figure out how to set up the clutch pack seems like it'd be a pain with all the testing that would need to be done. Eventually i think i would want to smash the transmission into the ground after about the 5th time pulling it! LOL!

no, would have to be flat then we could brake it here to form it into shape.

Here are some pics of the almost complete left side bracket.

Im proud to say this was all done by hand. I used our makeshift brake (mounted in out hydraulic press at work) to make the bends, then cut out the basic shape with the cutoff wheel. After that the fine tuning and edging was done with files and sandpaper. The results speak for themselves :)

Disregard the nuts holding the bolts on, its just for mock up. Those bolts will be threaded into the seat.

Won't be up for another week and a half or so now since we just left for 2 consecutive race weekends in jersey. But basically I test fitted one of the stoptechs and they fit but are very very close to the barrel of the wheel in a couple spots. To solve the issue I machined the corner down a bit and they clear nicely now.

Also did some more work on the brackets, I got the second one bent and traced out, now I just have to cut out an machine the contours. I'll get some pics up when I get home but till then this will be pretty dead lol.

I will always point people to buddy club suspension products. They have been tested and rated as the best valved Japanese shocks that are readily available on the us market. This means the damping range from full soft to full stiff is very broad, allowing you to go up to 4k stiffer rates on the OTS valving. This along with the reasonable prices it's a win-win.

Update fellas!

So I picked up a new motor this past weekend. Its a 2002 K20A2 with 91k miles. As you can see its mint as hell :)

It came out of a totaled Type S, but since all the damage was on the side of the car I was able to take it for a test drive. The motor felt smooth and strong so I ended up getting the full swap at a STEAL - Engine, trans, engine harness, ecu with Hondata reflash, immobilizer and remotes.

.

.

I also prepped and sprayed the rear bumper support with por15 since it had some surface rust starting ...

Thanks guys! Im going to start refreshing the motor soon, but it wont be ready to go in till probably next summer. There are alot of things I want for it before it goes in and I wont put it in until it's just right :msmile:

Thanks man, I have to wash her and take some pictures of the new stance. It looks so much better now with the front a little lower, the rear a touch higher and theres a bit more front camber. Just looks 100% proper now :)

Dont sweat college man its tough while youre there but its more important than any car stuff you could be doing!

Grats on the pickup! Give that engine a real good once over, and take your time with it. Its easiest to do it right, and do it right now while its out of the car. If i ever buy another second hand engine... it will get torn down to the crank. I stopped at the crank on my k24a1, but did everything else the first rebuild. This time its everything.

Yeah the head is getting alot of work... Mill, port match, polish valves, valve seals, valve job, and valve guides (if necessary) Block is going to get rings, all new seals, and whatever else it may need after i inspect clearances.

I love the 17's. Upsides of 17s are looks (in my opinion) and wheel/tire size selection. Only downside is that tires will be a little more expensive than 16's

Finally something new to update the thread with...

Ive been working on the dash blockoff/start button plate the last couple of days and its most of the way done. Im still waiting on the start button. As soon as that comes I can bore the hole for it to sit in and spray the carbon with satin clear.

Heres a comparison between the first version and the second version. I wasnt happy with how the fist one (top) had a slight gap under the cup holder, so you can see where I marked it and added a little ridge to the new version (bottom).

So after some test fitting I decided I wanted a little reinforcement where there is nothing supporting the back of the plate. To strengthen it up I added a section of extra stiff wood core carbon and glued it on with some black urethane.
