Two paths to choose from wanted some insight:nervous:

First path trying to break 200hp n/a on a a3:
-So far i have SRI dont want a cold air
-Kpro
-Dyno tuned at 160 on dynamics
-High flow cat
-Skunk2 catback

Second path break 250hp turbo on stock a3:
-Most likely the ebay turbo kit but swap out the actually turbo for something better

Dont recommend:
-Swapping motors not in my budget
-Buying a diff car this car is my baby

I'm looking more towards reliability, because I'm still making payments and its my DD and i mean DD not every other day its driven everyday.

Turbo is the best route. Go look at gtimportfanatics members ride he did a ebay kit. made good numbers

I would say good luck in spending alot more to get your k20a3 to 200whp.

If youre looking for reliability dont go turbo, esp. anything from Ebay.

Several people are getting close to 200 na with the VTec Killer head and it's very economical. I'm not a motor guy but not sure why this wouldn't be the first way to go before building forced or going to a swap?

yeah i agree, the vtec killer setup is the cheapest n/a k20a3 route for power. but be sure to upgrade valvesprings if you go this route since you are on the high lift cams at all times.

ok so my goal is to hit 210 with an a3.

right now i need help with list of what to do:
1. Upgrade cams, springs and retainers (dont know which one)
2. Raceheader
3. switch to cai

with the amount of money required to hit your 210 whp goal on the a3, you could net you a much higher output with other methods. if you recall some guy from skunk2 did some testing with the a3, they had a hefty amount of mods, spun the engine to 8500(not safe IMO) and only managed 190whp. if you want bigger N/A numbers you want to ditch the a3, just my 2c.

very true but i was thinkin bout swapping engines n i saw a dyno of a k24a1 with i/h/e kpro n it did 180 any know where the a2 n a4 put out

If you're really concerned with reliability, perhaps you should alter your goals a little. To add almost 100hp to a motor making 160hp (brand new) will probably have consequences. +50hp is much more reasonable. A catback, a high flow cat and a race header will probably give you the biggest gain right away. Once you start reving more (changing valvetrain) and be more aggressive with the Kpro tune, you'll probably lower the car's life. (Because Other parts will break)

If you want your car to feel faster, perhaps sticky tires, lighter flywheel, strip some weight off, LSD, stiffer compliance bushings. Good luck on whatever route you choose.

I remember there was another guy in Fresno who try to do this and something blew...I think he made 190 hp as well...but I don't see him on here anymore...I think Jerry (windchaser) knows this guy...
