I'd still like to know where you got your carbone fiber hood from and how much you paid.

civicracer.com
12-01-2002, 06:08 AM
yes...oil burning

DO NOT FOLLOW MANUAL about maint schedule

i will get into details later on this week about this

but i noticed on my car i burnt 3.5 quarts in the first 8000 miles

but after my 3rd oil change it has been normal.

honda allows a vehicle (not sure if the new ones count) but honda allows 1,000 miles = 1 quart

thanks

You should talk man...you were the first one to post 14's with i/h/e and heavy 17's...don't be skeptical...I believed YOU. With slicks, a CAI, good driving, and good weather I see this as being possible. I ran a 15.6 with i/e, MISSING 4th at the end of the run.

Erick,
Sorry if I came off wrong I have not ran my car I was looking at what other folks are posting. I believe what your saying I have no reason not to. From the photos it looks like you are running 22.5 x 8 m&h slicks is that right. I might take the slicks off the racecar and give them a try in the spring.

Forget about the stock injector size, just got my hands on 450 injectors for my turbo project.

Now about the ignition on the Si, it uses Direct Ignition Coils (DIS 4 coils) does it fire 2 at a time (same as miata 99-up) or one at a time? How many wires comes from the ECU to control the Coils? 1, 2 or 4 wires?

Is the ignition retard for the Si reliable enough (or fast enough) to retard the timing under, say, 6 PSi of boost? It was said that when you use bad gas (not enough octain) the stock ECU will retard your ignition when it hears knock.

What is the stock PSi on our Fuel lines??

the sunroof safety sucks...but i do not think you can bypass that...i will look into it...but i highly doubt you can...

another thing that annoys me is the how the AC turns on even when heat is on when you put on dash defogger and dash defogger/feet

i always forget to call american honda on how to shut that off (if you can)

has that been talked about in the board?

Hey civicracer, any answers to my questions?

Dunrick
12-02-2002, 09:39 PM
You can bypass that stupid AC crap by turning all three of the tempurature nobs....like selection of where the heat goes, temp, and the power of the heat. You turn your car on and hold the AC button and the RECYCLE air button....hold them down and then the ac light will start to blink...then you can turn it off when you are in defrost mode...hopefully that helps...I know its not great instructions...but it works...Peace

so after you do this, no more AC when defrosting? or everytime you don't want AC, you have to do this procedure?

also the when defrosting w/heat, the AC really helps. it's alot faster than having w/out. what's the downside to having the AC on when defrosting. besides that it robs like 1hp. if Honda designed it that way, it must be O.K., no?

Off-Topic:

I cannot for the life of me figger out how to get the damn A/C in my wife's 02 Odyssey EX-L to turn to a outside vent with no A/C. Hers has the dvd setup which I think might have a different climate control than the navigation setup. If you hit the "off" button the friggin fan shuts down all the way and if you hit the "A/C" button a time or two it reads "a/c off" on the display but the temp knob still makes the air either cold or hot. I hate "Climate Control"!!!!!! I really prefer the setup in my si.

Anyhoo, do you know how to get it set to just blow plain old air from outside without heating or cooling it?

I've read every one of the posts in this "ask a Honda Tech" thread and this is a list of his answers:
1) use all Honda fluids/lubricants
2) use 5 quarts on an oil change
3) probably can't override moonroof safety.

That's not much in terms of tech info.!!

Oh yeah, and he likes to brag about his 14.9. "Is it the driver?, I don't know."
 Give me a break! This is not a 5,000hp Funny car! After you get it off the line, just how much driving talent does it take?!

I should cut him some slack. He has a nice EP and is offering his knowledge. So, I am challenging "Mr. Honda Tech guy" to step up and answer some questions. Start with the cam/vtec question someone posted on page 2.

My question: What, if any, differences are there in the bottom end from our motor to the K20A2 & F20C(S2000)? I am very curious to know what kind of rpm the bottom end of our engines can take. Related topic, would a K20A2 cam/vtec swap into our motors?

My question: What, if any, differences are there in the bottom end from our motor to the K20A2 & F20C(S2000)? I am very curious to know what kind of rpm the bottom end of our engines can take. Related topic, would a K20A2 cam/vtec swap into our motors?

OK, you're good. congrats. I have a garage full of trophies & medals too. I haven't counted them & posted "career totals" on the internet, though.

I'm probably biased b/c I am a road racer and never got too excited about drag racing. I'm sure there is more to it than mashin' the pedal shifting a couple times and waiting 14.9 seconds.

Really sorry to hear your Civic got hit, though. And I really am interested to hear what you think about the Si's bottom end.

i like road racing, i suck at it but i admire the "kung fu" style shifting....tons of fun to watch!

to be honest...i have not actually got down to internals about our block

Definitely a died in the wool, bleeds "Honda red", full blown Honda nerd. Do the girls look at you funny & question the Honda tattoo, or do they dig that one?

I'm a little older so mine says "CVCC";) Just kidding, I don't have any ink, but I do respect that level of commitment to my favorite car company.

Not even close - I'm 40. My first Honda was a brand new 1987 Civic Si. Fun car, lightweight but not much power. Too bad they could not keep the weight of the new one down to about 2300-2500lbs.

Now I have the '67 S800 vintage racer, '99 Odyssey (to pull the race car trailer) and my 02 Si.

My Dad is a Honda nut too. He has owned a prelude and an accord. Now he has an S2000 (HKS exhaust sounds really sweet at 9k!) and a '69 D Sports racer powered by the S800 engine.

[Oh, a young guy. Sir, I've got ties that are older than you.]

[My thoughts exactly. My first was a '90 Civic Si. I would have owned an '87 but the dealers in the Washington DC area were surcharging their cars, and I refused to pay the additional profit. Charleston, SC, Honda dealers were much more accommodating.]

Now I have the '67 S800 vintage racer.

[Wow! I am impressed. I've known one other person who had an S800 years ago. He spent half of his time trying to explain to non-enthusiasts what it was. Unfortunately, even if I could find one now -- and they are neat, neat cars -- there's no way I could jam my 6'6" frame into one. This also has kept me out of Honda's other trick car, the S2000.]

i also have a 87 civic SI
its sitting outside my moms house

i can drive it if needed

i am a civic guy though

91 civic 4 door is my other old one
its legally in my name but my x-wife drives it
lost in divorce and i pay for insurance my lawyer sucked

the other civics are not normal (modified)
ek coupe 97, ek hatch 97, ek hatch 96 and the 2002 ep

If you don't mind, I'll answer this one: the correct size Honda oil filter is part # 15400-PLM-A01. The IDENTICAL Acura filter is one digit off (A02). The (only) reason for the difference # is to distinguish the two for inventory purposes, #1 for the Honda dealerships, #2 for the Acura guys.

And, just for the sake of completeness, the incorrect filter # is 15400-POH-305, which fits the Accords, the older B-series Civics, etc. If you had both filters in your hands, you'd see that if the base of the 305 were just a few mm's larger (3-5mm) it would be too large to prevent the filter from leaking at start up. Indeed, the fact that the 305 seals at all is simply luck.

2fastcivic
12-07-2002, 05:08 PM
so you are telling me that the rsx oil filter is the one that should be used on the 02 si. b/c i went to honda and asked for an oil filter for my car and they gave me the ones for the older model civics. they say its for the 02 si. it was a big filter like i used to use for my 97 dx civic. they even told me that the oil filter is used for the old civics. i didnt buy it so i used an rsx filter.

I think it depends on what dealer you go to, but in most cases they have to prove whatever you did to your car caused the problem.

I have a question for you (I posted a thread about it, but maybe this is a better place). I have an '02 civic SI with 8K miles, completely stock. My question is about suspension and handling. It seems like the car behaves kind of twitchy... It does not pull left or right, but it requires constant correction from the steering wheel at constant speeds. What's going on here? Is this normal? I took it back to the dealer for this, they claim everything is fine. Thanks!

Hi, in my previous car (Gen 1 CR-V) I replaced the stock radio with 2002 honda accord am/fm/cass/6cd changer. from the looks of the SI's dash, it doesn;t see like the square radio would sit there. question is, is there a square opening for the radio and the angled design is just the trim on top of the radio, or is the si radio physically wider?
Thanks
Dave

Heh, my first post on this EP board is about my old Accord...

Anyway, what dealership do you work at again and will you guys align my 93 Accord? No one wants to touch it since it's been lowered so the alignment has been off for a a couple of years now...

bmx269
01-30-2003, 03:20 PM
Take it to a pro alignment shop, that specializes in lowering and custom suspension. They should be able to do it.

BTW, My girfriend has a 4th gen Accord aswell. I love that generation. Hers is a 1990 Accord EXR.

Mugen Power
01-30-2003, 03:39 PM
Yeah, that's what I hear whenever I ask this question but the thing is that there aren't any speed shops in my area or ones that actually do this stuff. Also, my friends and I usually do these kinds of installs ourselves so we don't know any reputable shops in the area. I was just hoping that a Honda dealer would do a decent job.

bmx269
01-30-2003, 04:00 PM

Thanks...I bought my 02 Si form Turnersville Honda, they installed the free 6 disc cd changer fo me, but apprently when they put the reat hatch panels back together the driver side back panel is off by about 1/4 inch causing the driver side rear speaker cover to pop off all the time. I can push the speaker cover back on, but it will just pop off 2 minutes later even when the car is parked. Since Turnersville is about an hour away, I scheduled to goto Sloane Honda in NE Philly to see if they can reinstall the whole rear hatch panel to the right height. IF they can't do it, I will call Burns Honda for an appointment to see if you guys can fix it for me. I don't plan to go back to Turnersville Honda anymore since they can't do the job right the 1st time.
