View Full Version : Gas mileage!

How much gas mileage (city and highway or combined) do you guys usually get from your ep's?

cause seriously I'm getting like 20-25 city driving, I'm not sure if that's good or bad or normal.

What can I do to improve my gas mileage? Even driving tips will help:mangel:

I just purchased a Scangauge II and went from 28 mpg to 34 mpg. Even did one 35 mpg. Might want to look into this.

didn't we have a section dedicated solely to this topic before the crash?

oh well--all my information is on my signature as well--no updates for the car or build threads for now. its either a 20-25 mile relatively local commute one way or 135 highway, depending whether i'm at the office or working at the plant. i rarely ever take the car over 4k rpm unless i really need to. fuelly is an awesome tracking tool :thumbu:

Mine is shit >.<

I'm blaming it on the 95% city/bumper-to-bumper traffic, and shitty winter gas. I haven't been able to break 10L/100km in a long while; so I stopped tracking. I should start again.

Hopefully switching jobs in a few weeks, if so - it'll be mostly highway. Combined with (cleaner) spring gas, I better get better mileage!

Will clean air filter, and possibly change plugs ... hopefully I'll hit 500-550km/tank.

Averaging right around 30mpg, probably around 50/50 mixed driving...with most of the "city" part being my (only!) 3-mile each way commute to work, which has 4 traffic lights! :mfrown:
Was getting around 32-34mpg before my EP became my dd, was closer to 75% highway then.
I do try to drive as "efficiently" as possible, ie coast to stop signs/red lights, no darting through "holes" in traffic, shift under 3k rpms most of the time, etc... so on those occasions when I do get on it, makes the EP feel more "special"! lol
...just my .02

Fuelly is a great tool, but you've already figured that out. I got almost 35 in the summer when I first got my EP, I started tracking on Fuelly in the winter which is why its a bit lower. Im doing really well so far on my current tank. On my last tank I had just put on a SRI which made it go down a little bit... I loved hearing it on WOT lol.

Just bought the car in February, and I've gotten between 30 and 33 mpg on every fill up. I do about 50-50 city/highway driving, with a lot of stop/go traffic (40 mile commute daily). On the highway alone, I'd imagine I'd pull around 35mpg. I drive like a grandma most days, unless it's after a bad day at work ;-).

Oh, and the engine is completely stock minus a K&N drop in air filter, which I just installed last tank. No noticeable difference yet.

replace the spark plugs, clean the injectors, replace air filter, clean or replace "gas filter" or whatever you call it, change your oil

I get 280 a Tank! All I got running is AEM CAI, Exhaust TIP, and Rims. Just changed the spark plugs, NGK Irridium's and well. My question was I know i need to get back to topic on this :focus:. What's the difference with Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic 10w/30, It's what I been putting my 02NHBP with 127Kmiles on it.

Honda used to recommend 5w20 for our cars (it should be labeled on your OEM oil cap). However, this was mainly to increase the mileage rating for the car when it first was in production. Now, I believe Honda suggests using 5w30 as will most anyone else on this forum will suggest using. The 5w20 is just too thin at higher temps. The 10w30 should be saved for only the warmest of regions during the summer (Nevada, Arizona, etc..) areas that hit well above 100 degrees outside. Since you are in SoCal, I recommend going with the 5w30.

instead of saying you get "250 a tank," it would be better if you said what your mpg average is. because i'm sure all of you don't drive until you have completely no gas at all. i usually have 2-3 gallons left in my tank everytime i fill up.

It really comes down to how well your ride is maintained and tuned and how you drive. Sometimes I drive fast and I only get 28 MPG mixed, other times I drive slow and have gotten 34.23 MPG...

Some guys on ecomodder were getting 40mpg average with this car. Ridiculous.

I was seeing some odd behavior this winter. With heavily treaded winter tires, I was seeing 33-34mpg constantly. Never dropped below that. I do a mix of 60mph commuting/35-40mp rural driving. The tires were 205/55 R16, and I've recently put my 215/45 R17's on for the summer, and my fuel economy has gone down to 31mpg. It's frustrating. Same exact driving behavior, warmer weather, same wheel diameter, slightly wider tread. I've even added fuel system cleaner before I switched to the Summer's, but it didn't make a difference.

After getting better mileage in the cold air and winter gas mixture on my Nokian winter tires than i do on my summers, I'm going to be switching to Nokia when i need to replace these Coopers. Price will be ridiculous, but if it gives me 3-4mpg, I think it'll be worth it.

Driving very gently and commuting a lot on the highway between Welland and Hamilton, Ont. I get around 7l/100k. That is with snow tires currently on the car. I try to keep below 100 km/h on the QEW and let the big rigs cut the wind resistance if I can. I usually milk around 600 kilometers per tank or so before I have to fill it up.

I get between 28-30 miles per gallon. Most driving is back and forth to work and long drives every other weekend. With summer coming I think those numbers will decrease with continued AC use.

340 miles per tank of gas...5w-20 Castrol Synthetic. Around 33 MPG no matter where I drive...the 340 is usually on 11 gallons of gas every time. Only mod is a short ram intake....same mpg w/ stock air box. I dont drive it easy either...daily redlines.... 193 K miles.

I just got over 32mpg on my last tank. I'd attribute it to a fresh oil change (I actually just switched to 5w-30 too) and better summer gas finally making it to the pumps. I also just got lowered 1'' which might have had a very minor effect decreasing drag.

I just cleared 32MPG with Mobil 1 Synthetic, 89 octane and thats with a few redlines in 4rth. im hoping when i switch to Type S wheels the 16lbs weight savings over my HFP's will help it more but we will see.

The worst mileage I've gotten in city and winter driving was 9.0L/100km or 26mpg. The best mileage was in the summer, driving at 71mi/hr (115km/h) and I got 6.9L/100km or 34mpg. This looks consistent to what you guys are getting.

The first year (2004-2005), I was consistently getting 10L/100km or 23.5mpg, but that may be because the engine hasn't worn in yet, I'm not sure. I'm quite happy that the car does much better these days. Did you guys notice crappy mileage in your first year?

Mine can be all over the place. I drive about 10 miles to work with about 7 of it on the interstate and the rest on a road that I'm able to hit MOST of the lights green. When it's -20F for highs I pull in the 26-28 range. When it's above +32F I pull 30-34. Highway driving for trips going 55-65 range I pull 34-36. Driving 75-85mph about 26-28. A couple years back on a long road trip I was pulling about 26 cause I was going close to 80 until I hit higher elevation. Then, with the cruise set at 78, I was pulling 36 and at one fill 39. I almost fell over.

I consistently get 28 mpg mixed city/highway, but mostly city. I drive spiritedly every now and then, but it still doesn't effect my mileage.
