How do you tighten the driver seat belt? I can only find replacement procedures. My seat belt doesn't retract as good as the passenger side so when I take my seat belt off it kinda swings around and sometimes hit the outside of the car even.

You have to replace the retracting mechanism inside. I was quoted from Honda something like $180 per side with labour and parts. I'm waiting until they really don't retract anymore to replace them as they are just slow right now on my drivers side but still pull the seatbelt up.

damn i have the same problem too. holy smokes 180 for a retracting mechanism good lord. i guess i'll be following the same procedure as you and wait 'til they are fully useless unless i replace it with a bucket seat and some harnesses

I was under that assumption myself.

my seat belts retract slowly and sometimes not at all. I believe that should be covered.

the seat belts still lock in place when you stop abruptly. the problem is with the mechanism that recoils? or pulls the belt back after use.

correct me if i'm wrong but thats what i think is the problem. (i have the problem but my seatbelt still locks in place)

Yes the safety is not effected. The recoil is. When one gets out of the car the seatbelt doesn't retract, leaving the belt flopping around loose (mine then gets shut in the door, oops). I have to remember to feed the belt back into the B-pillar to avoid this.

i believe the recoil is part of the safety. Imagine if you went into a lake and got caught up because the recoil wasn't working the way it should. I'd call honda and see what they say.

Anyone have a DIY for this? I hate the freaking dealers. Today I called Honda World and they told me to come before 1700. Then I hauled ass down there and got there at 16:50 and they told me to bring it in the morning and leave it there for the weekend. what kind of bullshit is that?

Put me on board this train. I hate seeing my seat belt still hanging from when I left it last due to it not retracting.

I just bought an 03 EP3 and have the same issue.

I wonder if you could just pull the mechanism apart and wrap the belt around the spindle a couple more times?

ok I went to the dealer on wednesday right before closing to drop my car off. They ordered the part on thursday. I got my car back at the end of friday. Did not cost me a dime.

Check the plastic thingy on the b pillar that the belt has to go through.... it gets all gumed up with shit. Clean it all up and it should retract tighter.

my em1's passenger seatbelt did this.. i had so many dents in my door jam... i called honda for a new one and new one installed... he told me seatbelts are lifetime warranty.. so i took it in and all i had to pay was misc shop supplies of like 8 dollars... i'm gonna go back and get the ep done soon

yep I've noticed if you clean that and the belt, it seems to retract better... Rather do that then give the dealership here any $$.

I had gotten into the habit of slowly feeding the belt back in after i unclip it, my old civic was the same way. I might call the local dealership and see if there is any warranty applicable, cleaning will definitely be the other option though.
