My car is an 02 with 74k miles on it. Recently the throw out bearing started whining, so I replaced it with a Honda OEM part. About 2 months later it started again but this time it sounded as if the clutch had exploded in the case. Upon removal of the trans I found chunks of metal everywhere, apparently my clutch had literally disintegrated as did the throw out bearing. The throw out bearing had gotten so bad it broke the shaft which it rides on off of the trans case. I used paint to highlight the part, hopefully it will make more sense than my rambling.

It made a clean break. God willing I am going to either weld this back on, or I'm gonna burn my ep3 to the ground. This pos has been a headache since day one. Any advice on wtf to do here? A new clutch case is going to break the bank, ($250 From local Honda Dealer) and I am not willing to invest more time into this repair. Almost curious if I can keep the shaft off but I'm affraid the throw out will ride directly onto the output shaft, or will the master cylinder keep it aligned? Thanks in advance for any replies.

You can't take the tranny apart and access what's left of it from the back? If its just a press fit piece, it would seem like a machine shop could make you another one. Problem is, all the labor may cost you just as much as a new clutch case. Another option might be to see if anybody has a case that they can't use due to other problems.

Maybe Talon or somebody can chime in here.

JBweld can do alot of things, but I do believe it will fail in this instance. I suggest a new case, repairing it by welding will cost almost as much as a new case. What grade of grease did you use when you replaced your throwout bearing the last time?

@ Twisted-X Unfortunately its not pressed, its actually part of the case.
@ TalonXracer I used grease left over from an Exedy OEM clutch kit for my old crx.

Thanks again for the replies guys.

In the end I JB Welded the part. Spent a good 40 minutes cleaning and sanding it to make certain I got a good patch of jb onto everything. Time will tell how long it holds up. For now its working fine, new clutch and throw out bearing sounds/feels amazing. Unfortunately I pulled the pins outta the primary 02 and am awaiting someone to snap a pic of theirs or post a diagram so I can get rid of the CEL. Thanks again for the replies!
