View Full Version : New guy - IX
Hey guys
Been bouncing around a few forums, I've been looking for a nice daily/autocross car to drive around - I've posted on these forums before but I've never introduced myself. I was mainly bouncing around between a new Fit, 04 Si, 09 MS3, new GTI, used 08+ STI hatch.. I know the price range varies a lot, but I've just been trying to decide how much I want to put into the daily and how much I want to put into my current car.
Currently I have an 06 Evo IX, but I'm planning on garaging it as soon as I pick up a new car. I love it a lot but I just want to store it and start gearing it towards the track. Currently the car's full bolt on, makes like 370-380whp. Few other mods include upgraded spring/strut set up, upgraded some bushings for some weak spots in the suspension geometry of the car, reprogrammed center diff controller, and a cusco 1.5 way rear diff.
Here's a few pics if anyone cares

I'm currently thinking of an 04 Si - I think I can get a decent used for for 10k which is not bad at all. It gets good MPGs, looks great etc. Eventually I'd probably want to do a motor swap like a K20A2 or something. The only con is that I wish it had 4 doors, and the higher revving motor to begin with. Each generation of the Si seems to be about 50hp short of what its main competitors are, but that's not a big deal to me.
Any suggestions/feedback much appreciated!

You should be able to get an 04 for cheaper than 10! They are fun cars, and have alot of options to make them fast. Plus they aren't as common as a GTI or an STI, so it gets more attention.
Is the 2005 model year also an option? I was under the impression that 2005 Civic Si was not sold in the US, but 2005 WAS the last model year for the EP3.. so I'm confused.
bump, so there IS a 2005 civic si sold in North America?
US yes, just not Canada.
That's a fucking nice Evo.
Cool, thanks - I'll expand my search to '05 Sis too. It'll probably wait until next spring, just planning ahead. Hopefully I'll find a decent condition one for like 10grand. They're holding value pretty well considering they were pretty cheap to start.. I see decent condition ones on cars.com for like 13k

I would highly recommend getting a stock EP3, or possibly hunting around the for sale section here and get one with a good reputation.

Fix'd -:mangel:
hahaha yea it's really spartan, but i don't mind it, esp since i put in the dvd/nav, which i'll probably update to a newer one soon. Is there a dash piece for the EP3 to turn that area into a double din for dvd/nav too?

Yeah, Crutchfield has the 2DIN dash kit, plus some e-bay vendors I think. The nav units look really good in the EP.

nice is that 2din dash kit specific for the Ep3? like replaces the trim or something?

sounds good, yeah I think the prices are still pretty high for ep3s (at least 04-05) consider how much they were going for brand new. definitely something i'd like to do though - im gonna love dd/autocrossing this car.. hopefully do a k20a2 swap sometime with a 6 speed as well

Looks good if you can talk the price down a bit.

nice, what do you think a fair price would be?

yes..05 si everywhere.. nice evo but i would if done the subie..
I guess used car prices aren't as low as they used to be before the cash for clunkers, so that price isn't that unreasonable. If you can get it for $9k and there's no steering wheel creak or bad syncros then that would be pretty good.
