So I've got a bad rear main seal on my tranny, and am considering to just swap do while Here are my options:

1. k20a2
Engine, tranny, ecu: $3000
Labor: $1000
LSD: $800
Total: $4800

2. K20z3
Engine, tranny w, LSD: $2500
Kpro: $900
Misc parts: $500
Labor: $1000
Total: $4900

3. K24a2
Engine: $1800
Kpro: $900
LSD: $800
Labor: $1,000
Misc parts: $500
Total: 5000

4. Just fix the rear main seal for $600 and forget the swap.

I'm going by the engine prices of junkyards at car-part.com. Let me know what I should do.

id go with the k24a2...torques...or spend that much on the k20a and get some guys from ephatch to do the install instead of paying for labor

hah thanks guys, but I'm in cali.

So i guess the k24a2 is the favorite even with the 5 speed.

noooo... do 6speed.. if your ganna invest in the a2 then atleast do the 6 speed... dont get me wrong 5 speeds are strong but they have the long gear ratio...great for boost but its just alright for N/A...so it depends in what you want to do...

The 5speed is FANTASTIC with the K24A2. No need for such a close ratio as the 6speed has with an engine that has the torque band of the K24A2.

The Z3 option will require some halfassed backyard modifications to the trans/shift assembly to work.

The K20A2 w/6spd and stock ECU will work fine and will be the easiest and also the only legal option of the choices you listed.

I'm assuming you mean legal because the OP is in Cali? I had a question about the legality of swaps. When I had my ej1 and ej8 people were saying that I couldn't get a B20 and have it be legal because its a light truck engine. Would the same be said about the K24 out of the element/crv? If so, does the accord k24, k24a2, and all other k20s fall under passenger car engines and would clear these legality issues?

well my car is an 05, and the last k20a2 was an 04...so trying to stay legal is kinda out the window with that engin. That being said....i leaning towards the k24 and making it stockish anyways.

Does anyone know if the comptech icebox from my k20a3 will fit the k24a2?

okay so you have another option which is to throw in a k20z1 motor with an a2 tranny or the vss converter along with more modifications (not so sure). the z1 and a2 swap are almost identical i feel so that's a win if you want to do that swap

in a serious note, i would rather do a k24a2 swap and try to BAR it with the RBB intake mani since you're going to be spending what 4800-5000gs anyways so might as well get the best bang for your buck atm

------------------edit---------------------------------
i actually dont even know if a stock intake would fit with the RBB so if it doesnt and someone clears that up please forget the BAR-ing suggestion haha and stick with a z1 swap?

so in cali you can get in trouble for the swap you may have? well thats no fun..lol yea do the k24 and give the 5 speed a shot.. and yea the k24s are already torquey anyways... i invested in the typer tranny wish i wouldnt of.. i want to got boost..loli still have my 5 speed anyways..let us know what you do...
