So I'm going to possibly pick up a 9 week old all white Husky. I was just wondering because the Husky is an active dog and i'll have to take her to the park alot.

So do any of you guys let your dog ride shotgun, or where do they ride? and if they shed, how hard is it to clean up after them? Maybe take the privacy cover in the back off and lay a blanket back there so she can lay down in the trunk? or definetly ride shotgun? Please let me know guys...i know most of you guys would never let a dog sit in the car...

Many a dog has ridden in my EP3.................LOL

LOL,,,now for some real advice, dog hair is almost impossible to remove from the stock seats, I had a neoprene seat cover for my Lab, it protected the seat from her hair, claws and occasional drool(mine not hers, LOL)

Doug, where did you get that cover? did you get it from a petsmart or something? How easy is the hair to remove from the carpet?

I got my cover from petsmart and it covers the backseat pretty good. After I pull the cover off i get the rest of the hair with a lint roller.

I got the neoprene cover from Cabela's, it is meant for trucks. The hair is a bitch to remove from the carpet, but very doable, just time consuming. I used a roll of packing tape to pick up most of it.

I would get a cover for the back seats for muddy paws and fur, plus some sort restraining seatbelt of some sort for long hauls. My mom shows her dogs competitively in obedience trails, so I have gone to many, many dogs growing up, and loose dogs in cars can end badly. I remember when I was a kid someone cut us off on a highway, mom slammed on the brakes, and our poor golden flew out of the back seat and got wedged between the front seats and the center counsel. She was fine, just not very happy. Not trying to get on a soapbox, but it's a good thing to keep in mind.

And good luck with the puppy!

A dog owner myself, i never take my rat terrier in my car. I always use my dad's SUV lol since he doesnt mind. I just put her in a box since shes not that big and let her ride shotgun. Like everyone has said, just get some seat covers/lint rollers/etc.

it'll be harder for me once she gets older, she'll be about 50 lbs

yes.

i fold the back seats down and throw a 65lb and a 95lb lab in the back. usually its only 1 or the other, but on occasion i've taken both.

I drove from FL to CA with a 60lb boxer riding shotgun..... I used a sheet to cover the seat... it worked for the most part but the hair was a pain to get out... I think there's still some there actually lol

i take my great dane in the car all the time, she is only 7 months and already weighs 125 pounds, she obviously goes in the back seat and i just put a sheet over it, dog hair isnt that hard to vaccuum up with a shop vac. When i put her in the front seat her head goes out the sunroof lol

I take my pit for rides.....the dog hair problem is easily solved. Just use a small tight brush in small fast strokes to lift the hair out of the seat and gather it into piles. I've never had a problem, even when he was shedding his puppy hair all over my backseat.

My lab would get all excited to go for a ride and her hair would just fly out in MASSIVE quantities, just like it would when she heard the ducks honking when in the blind.

Whether it's my 60 lb. Pit bull, my 22 lb. Boston Terrier, or my 18lb. Pug, I always put them in the back seat after putting down a fitted sheet over the back corners of the seat and then slide the headrest down to "lock" it in. This seems to help control the hair the best.

I have two Huskies they leave fur everywhere, just be ready to use a vac after every trip. Invest in a good shop-vac.

We have a lab and a jack russell. The lab leaves more hair, but the terrier hair is harder to pick up. I tried to avoid it at first, but then I came to terms with the fact the hatchback design is perfect for dog hauling. We have a CRV as well which lets the jack russel show off his ups by jumping into the back.

I used to have a pit before my pops got pissed at him and let him go. I used to drive with him in the back seat all the time. The first couple times was bad lol. Apparently he gets car sick so he threw up like crazy in the back and pissed a couple times. So then i learned to put a big sheet in the back. Never really had a problems with hair thought. One this i had a big problem was he would stick his nose on the window and there be snot stains all over lol.

i have a rat-a-pin. she is good just do the best at training your dog. hair is easily removed i have a water vacuum so it takes off all the hair really quick and the only thing that is funny is the snot on the passenger window. rat-a-pin = rat terrier/mini-pinscher.

My Jack Ass - I mean Jack Russell Terrier leaves a cloud of hair in my ep every time. I keep a lint roller in the car to keep the seat somewhat clean between vacuuming.

I have a 12lb chiuauah-beagle mix and a 60lb chocolate lab, both ride in my car at least 3 times a week... I don't have any trouble with cleaning out hair. I usually use a rubber hair removal brush I got from the grocery store on my seats and packing tape. Those two with a shop-vac work fine. The snot on the window is common but windex works, and I make sure they don't scratch on the sides. They ride in the back seat or front depending on if anyone else is shotgun.

I let my dog ride in the car. I have a white bulldog and that hair sucks to get off the seats, but its worth it to have her in the car. Check this out. I took my car to pick her up as a puppy and the first thing she did was poop on my seat. I thought it was kinda funny but not to much, I just looked at her said I should return you.

They shed enough to fill your hand up everyday. You have to brush them daily it seems but I love both my Huskies. You would be surprised how many you see in HI at the dog park.

i let my 2 german shepherds ride in the car, i have never got all the hair out of car to this day and ive spent hours vacuuming at times. my advice would be to put a pet transporter crate(almost like the one you would use at home but less holes and made out of plastic) in the trunk of the car or the backseat to minimize hair all over your car. this is also much safer for your dog as well. i just put a little thin blanket at the bottom of the crate for doggie confort.

Huskies are good for colder climates, I would NEVER own one in Hawaii.

It's almost cruel.

hair is tough to get out, but bulldogs have real short hair so it could be worse. husky's have that real long hair, so if i were you i'd take the car to a place to have the dudes clean it out. i just use towels as you can see above. she loves it

The reason I have a Hatch is to Cart my dogs around! Ive got an 80lb and a 50lb Black lab, I drop the backseats and throw down a blanket. The nose art on the windows and slobber on the backside of the front seats is the worst part of cleaning for me.

I haven't replied to this thread in a while and it's time to update...I did end up picking up my beautiful husky puppy, she is now 63 pounds and she rides in the EP 2-3 times a week. Her name is Lenny...lol from the original F&TF. I throw the back seats down, lay a huge blanket and it's money. occasionally she gets to ride shotgun for short drives. The hair in the seats and carpet is not bad since hers is pretty thick. I just brush it with a thick brush with the occasional car wash and it all comes out...Thanks everyone!

Little offtopic...worst thing to remove from my car EVER were thousands of glitter particles from my prom dates dress - ugh, prom.

With that said, I've always had difficulty removing dog hair from my carpets -- simple sweeping with the vaccuum doesn't work as well as expected. However, if you remove the floormats and use an indoor vaccuum on them, running it very slowly and on the lowest carpet level, you should get great results.

I've got 2 kids in my EP. They make more of a mess than my Boston Terrier ever did. All I do is put a towel for him on the front seat. I'm not one of those guys that freaks out if there's a speck of dust on the dash. I did, however, get a kickpad thing for behind the driver's seat to keep dirty footprints off the seat from my oldest daughter.
