Hi everyone,

New to the forums and doing research as I plan to buy an ep3 asap. I just sold my 2008 Wrangler Rubicon as I'm returning back to University as a mature student. I look forward to sharing my ep3's progress once I get one!

********Main issue/ Question********

I've read that many owners swap in the type r cluster and that the mileage follows the cluster, not the computer in the car. How can I protect myself from buying a car with false KM / Miles shown on the odometer? Is there an easy way to spot this? Thanks for the help!

welcome. as for false mileage, ask for service records. Hopefully the ep3s you encounter wont have cluster swaps

for one thing, a type r cluster will say type r on it FYI...

what is your budget if you dont mind me asking...you may want to bite the bullet and buy honda certified...it may cost more but you'll get a top notch car...i bought my 02 si in 06 for 12k honda certified with 45k on it and it was showroom perfect

Yeah, I know in Canada, the cluster should say "SIR" but I'm worried about the owner simply swapping in a junk yard cluster showing less miles. Is there any way to tell? I'm looking for a low mile SIR and in Canada, its a $4000+ premium! My budget is 10g and I'm looking for a car with around 60,000km (or around 35,000 miles).

Would the cluster have a serial # on it or something that could identify it to the car? One of the cars Im looking at has low miles but the owner never brought it to the dealer for oil changes. The car has no service records which makes it an easy target for odometer fraud.
