hey guys i recently bought my ep3 and have done some minor things to it. im on a fairly tight budget due to the fact that im a college student but am still looking for a fun ride. i want to do some more bolt ons but would like some input on what i should do next and approximately how much it would cost. here are a few of the things ive already bought:
buddy club ss $120
buddy club pro spec exhaust $125 off craigslist ;)
aluminum shifter bushings $15
aem v2 cai $200

what i want to do next is possibly either the hondata reflash or dc sports race header..both around the same price ~$300. which should i do to get me better results faster?...thanks for any help

header and than reflash reflashing and tuning your car is useless if you dont have any "real" performance parts.

Get all your bolt ons and performance stuff together then get it reflashed. Get some suspension too.

ok thanks. is the dc sports race header a good idea for the money? im not dropping 800 on the buddy club race header thats for sure lol. also with the reflash do u need to use 91+ octane or can i still use 87?

If I'm not mistaken, he's already got one.

My opinion for your next mod, since you're in college and on a tight budget, would be to get the "next month's payment" special. I think it's somewhere between $150 and $300, depending.

Nah, but seriously, if you want to eventually reflash, get the header first and then the reflash as has been said already. With the reflash you should still be able run regular unleaded, but if you go above the stock redline constantly I wouldn't hesitate to spend the extra few bucks and put premium in. I run premium when I autocross as an added level of safety (plus it gives you like 1-2hp with the reflash apparently, so why not?).

Im hearing good things out of the OBX race header too, might want to check into that. I think you can get one around 220.00 then you might have cash for another small mod. Mp_02si just put his on, I rode in it last Sunday and it felt way strong and he still had the A/C on.......

torque damper

orrrr

save up for suspension (i would recommend koni or tokico struts and h&r or tien H teck springs)

im looking at the OBX race header on ebay and the only thing im concerned about is that in the pic the end of the header is only two bolts while the stock downpipe that connects to my exhaust is three screws. how will that fit correctly? and thanks for all the helpful info guys. greatly appreciated

The picture can sometimes be the wrong one, one flaw of ebay....I'll get Matt to respond to you or I'll ask him for you. He never said anything about it not matching up though and he was extremely happy with the gains over his shorty header.

do a light weight flywheel and a new clutch with a 6 speed tranny.. then kpro it..

05-26-2010, 10:46 AM
no no no guys.. i disagree with all.. yes on the kpro..! actually kpro is a must..! and the stock k20a3 only has a little amount of 133ft lb of tq..so we need to work with what we have... so stop losing the little torque with stock mounts and get a nice set of avid mounts..light flywheel, and a nice tranny.. if you want power over night get yourself some 310s from rsx types and buy a k24a1 or k24a4 for around 800 shipped.. use the stock ep3 ecu and run no bolt on....put your money towards the power not towards the looks..

what if i just buy the ESMM when i buy the header since they are only 1/10th of the price as replacing the motor mounts? i dont have enough money to spend on motor mounts but also dont want ne thing breaking or cracking if i just leave the stock

Mine has been ran hard as F#@k and I have 196,000 miles on mine w/ no breakage.....thats not even a concern or worthwhile thought. Ask anyone around here how much my car is abused if you need proof......Go with the OBX or what ever you want but dont waste money on mounts. If I could do any mod right now I would def. do the header and if you had the money, Kpro. Im not saying mounts wont help anything but if your worried about breakage, don't.

as far as the OBX race header is concerned i am questioning which version is on ebay? i noticed ppl are talking on threads about version 2 and version 3. any idea on wat the difference is and wat version this one ishttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-05-Honda-Civic-Si-SIR-K20-A3-OBX-SS-Header-EP3-Hatch-/160439812923?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item255af5433b ? one other thing that i noticed is that the way that it is fired is 1-2 and 3-4. compared to most rh ive seen they are usually 1-3, 2-4 or 1-4, 2-3. any difference/loss of power there? thanks

nope you're in the wrong now, it's brakes/suspension over power AND looks. Not much point in adding power when the stock motor can break the tires loose, that sounds like enough power, the chassis just cant put it all on the ground.. my .02
