IT'S F'N READY!!!!!
Finally after many months of work I have it 99% ready to go. This has to have been one of the longest projects I have ever accomplished. I still have work to do, don't get me twisted. But it runs, lights work, Lexan is in and looks AWESOME.

I need to still thin out some more wiring. I need to remove my hatch lock actuator. I need to affix my interior fuse box. I want to make blanks for my headlights.

I'm looking into water injection. I'm looking into aerodynamics. But this is all far off. I need to get back to work. But I'll hit the track at least once first.

Here's a good shot of the Lexan. Besides the design of the rear hatch glass. It looks like stock glass. It's not it's Lexan Excel D with OEM borders. Shit's sick son! All 3 windows weigh in at a total of 8 lbs. The OEM glass for all 3 was around 25 lbs.

Your thread is back! Before the crash I think you were just getting to removing the sound deadening, and the car looks really good now. Very professional in how you are attacking the project. I don't remember from the last thread, but what are you planning on competing in?

Did you need to do anything as far as the fenders with the extra width that the ITR LCAs provide?

When I get done I will run NASA TT for a while. I want to run a 25 hour race next year. After that it will either be NASA USTCC or SCCA World challenge. It really depends on how long it takes me to get my suspension, race dampers.
As for the LCA's and fenders, no I did nothing, though I am not lowered yet. We'll see what happens when I get those dampers.

Wow. amazing, all that work done just wondering why you left the suspension stock?

Well because my weight determines my spring rate. There's no point in putting in 7k dampers only to turn around and buy new springs or re-valve because my weight changed by 300 - 500 lbs. I'm just not sure where I am at weight wise. And yes the dampers are super expensive, I'm not willing to do this twice, once is enough. I see so many on this board having blown shock isuues. This is a race car now, everything needs to be solid. If not I could get hurt. Thanks for the props guys!

My registration is due next month. No smog is due since I had to go to the state referee. But 2011 I'll have to decide weather to keep it registered or non-op it. So for now, yea I'm going to keep it streetable. It hasn't been street legal for many years. I have got to find a company that does race car insurence.

I know it's lost a lot of weight. I'm pretty sure I'll hit my weight goal. 8 lbs per whp should be fast enough.

Well, I'm saving for the suspension. It's going to be all custom. The only down side is that the fronts don't come in aluminum bodies. They're steel for strength. Also the fronts are inverted. So the shock bodies are up top in the front instead of near the wheel as normal. I'm going with JRZ's, 3 way adjustable. Prolly going to run 700lbs in the front springs and 1300 - 1400 springs in the rear. Really depends on the final weight.

Well a lot has happened.

Got a quick release and wheel. I really like the centering of the hub; you CANNOT put it on crooked. Stupid NASCAR!
The steering wheel just feels comfortable.
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n2/HondaFreak_01/User%20Galleries/47fac147.jpg

I got aligned and corner weighted. This is where I become frustrated.
So before my cage the car weighed around 2558lbs with me and 1/3 of a tank of fuel. I'm 145lbs, fuel is around 7lbs per gallon at 70*F. So, fuel was about, oh 30lbs give or take a little. So there was about 180lbs of me & fuel. So the car was at about 2378lbs without me and fuel.

Now the car weighs 2570 with me and 2/3 of a tank. So, again, me 145lbs, fuel is roughly 60lbs, 2570lbs, -205 in fuel and me. So, 2365lbs now after the cage. Wow, I lost a whopping 13lbs. Now my cage is abnormal, it's superbeef. I could have saved at least 75-100lbs in a minimal type cage. Though, that didn't make sense because of my low power to weight ratio. This puts me at around 9.4lbs per 1HP. As my cage builder said, that's not bad. No, no it's not bad. However, quite a bit above my goal of around 8.5lbs per 1HP.

I'm slightly back to the drawing board. I don't think I will actually remove much more weight. As I look at classing for a racing series, I'm finding myself digging a hole because of points for classing. Power to weight is a huge deal.

Is ok though, March is my first trip back to Infineon Raceway. That should give me a good indication as to how much the cage did. And will I be able to better my lap times?. I will see. I think it will be a HUGE difference.

New corner weight and alignment.

Right now I'm setting the car up for NASA STSU. Super Touring Super Unlimited (STSU). All of the safety rules are the same for everyone. Modifecations put you in a class.
What happens is for every mod you have that is not a stock OEM part, you take a point. If you have a BBK, that's 1 point. If you have ITR LCA's, that's not a point, it's OEM. BUT the spherical bushings in the ITR LCA's ARE a point. Add it all up, and all the mods determine the legal minimum weight you can be.

I'm really stuck. I have the toughest part of this going on now. Trying to balance points/weight/performance/and be competitive.

I'm just saying that other EP owners, which i prefer not to say names ( my that's a big Moon in the sky ), have caged cars that only see trailers. Closest thing to racing is the 3-5mph roll in order to get those cover shots. Then it's back onto the trailer and tucked away for the year.

Yes in the UK
No, they didn't rape me FedEx and customs did. After I got my windows FedEx sent me a $56 bill for customs. WTF? I paid $680ish shipped for 2 port and one rear. Port windows are 3mm and rear window is 4mm. The port windows are PERFECT! The raer window has cust for the UKDM rear whale tale spoiler. Like the BTCC cars use. Yes CTR or JDM spoiler cut outs, not US.

June is the next chance. Maybe it will be dry.

This weekend was my first time back to the road course with a fully caged EP. I knew it was going to rain, I just had no idea NorCal would be hit with a freaking MONSOON the weekend I want to go learn the car.

Here are some things I learned this weekend driving in rain:

Just because you THINK your ready for the track doesn't mean you are.
I was worried that NOT having windshield wipers would be an issue. It wasn't.
I thought I would have to put my full tread toyo's on. I did not. I used my shaved toyo's (no tread, bald). They worked better than expected.
A window net does keep a lot of rain off of you.
A CAI in the rain, with a JRSC is a sure fire way to pull water into your motor. So far doesn't look like any damage. I was only having issue's in boost. The rest of the time I had no issue's.

The first session Saturday was a bust. Audi in the tire wall in T11 black flagged the session. Woohoo 3 laps. Driver said he came in too hot hit the brakes, nothing. Pumped the brakes, nothing. Tire wall=1 Audi=0.
Second session, nothing but getting run over because TT was running with group 4.
Third session I realized my intake was sucking up water in boost. I threw a check engine light and decided to save it.

I had almost no understeer issue's. The point was finesse, my camber, toe and caster have nothing to do with HOW I input into the car. I had no spins or driving issue's, just car prep issue's.

I love my seat, I love my steering position in general. I was really comfortable. I didn't take any video. It was so wet and windy I had trouble keeping dry, no heater in my EP. My wife and 11 month old were with me and by the end of day Saturday we were all tired of being cold and wet. So we left early. The place was pretty empty when we left, it takes a lot to chase people from the track. The next event isn't until June. Hopefully it won't be raining.

Thanks for responding.

why you go with 3mm on the port windows and 4mm on the rear?
wonder if they can send me a sample of their stuff. Debating between the bronze or clear.

I went with 3mm on port windows for weight. Honestly, the .5lb difference is meaningless. I was going to get silver windows, then I thought about heat absorbsion, and then went with clear. I wouldn't bother asking for samples just measure a piece for thickness at home depot. 3mm is .118" or slightly under 1/8". 4mm is .157" or just a hair over 1/8". It's such a minor difference.

It's about to get crazier! Stay tuned for weight reduction madness!

I'll be going alone in June. No wife or kid so I can be stress free. Yea man your welcome to come. I'm not sure where the hell time has gone. Pretty soon Tyler will want to drive.

Which gets me thinking about finding a co-driver. Hmmm might help offsett the cost.

whats the thickness of our OEM glass?

It's roughly 1/8" @ 7+lbs each for port
The rear is thicker @ 15+lbs

If you bond them in, thickness won't matter. I had mine bonded in. Looks so stock people can't tell and overlook the lexan completely. I'd personally go clear. But either way I put like 8-10 lbs of lexan in place of 25+lbs of glass.

I'm just saying that other EP owners, which i prefer not to say names ( my that's a big Moon in the sky ), have caged cars that only see trailers. Closest thing to racing is the 3-5mph roll in order to get those cover shots. Then it's back onto the trailer and tucked away for the year.

:mfrown: Sad such nicely built cars are never tracked....

as far as i know.. he's tracking it this season or whenever he gets shit str8..

No, no ripples. For $700 it better be perfect. And they are. 3 windows only weigh 15lbs. ; )

On a somber note......I MISS driving my ep.

Thank you. Much appreciated. Building a "true" race car is a ton of work. I'm working on my wiring harness right now. Removing unused plugs and wires to save weight. I'll have some updates soon. I believe I've found employment after 2.5 years of nothing. Stay tuned!

Woo Hoo! I'm very happy for you.

Any changes for this year yet?

Looks like I am going to HAVE to make some boost changes. I have been running an odd size serpentine belt that for some reason is no longer available. This is a huge pisser. I am at an unusual belt length right now of 1240mm or 48.8 inches. Nobody makes that length anymore. Gatorback has a huge gap there from 50.5 inches to 42.5 inches. I don't get it.
So I am going to have to go back to a 4.4" JRSC pulley, or go to the k24 crank pulley and hope it takes me into a belt someone actually makes. Problem is re-tuning for that. Gay. I am happy with where I am at.

Your motor makes me curious and wonder. I read its a stock motor with a jrsc. Now do you think you could break 300whp with the motor untouched and jrsc? What tranny are you running with the jrsc on there? Is the jrsc aftercooled or have meth injection? What motor mounts are you running and how stiff?

300whp is easy with a smaller JRSC pulley and a bigger crank pulley. I am running the 4.0" JRSC and A3 crank pulley. I'll be moving to K24 skeletor pulley soon. I have the stock ITR K20a transmission. And I run the innovative (65A) street mounts, not stiff. I can feel the motor twist the exhaust with the 65A's. Changing those to the 95A mounts, mine are starting to sag.

I have the cheaper less problematic Swann Freestyle HD, no worries about software updates. The only difference is it's not stereo record. Meh, it works.

It's funny how hard the track is on the car. I found an axle that was spitting grease through the boot without a tear. Waiting on a new passenger axle an two new outer tie rod ends. I ripped a boot. Oh and some shims for the BBK, I fuxored two of those up. It's all ready to go. Roll fenders, corner weight and align. Back to the track!

Just updated the list a little. Everything NEW has (Update) next to it. Waiting on J's racing wide fenders. Which is pissing me off. Almost 3 months now coming from Japan. Waiting for alignment and corner weight, need fenders.

@Powers, yea I am hesitant to get into CF hood, dunno why I just am not sold on the quality. The hatch is an issue since I have Lexan in the back and I am not sure it can be removed and re-installed without damage. We'll see if the J's fenders are any lighter IF I EVER FUCKING GET THEM. Never buy J's again after this. Ordered on May 15th and still waiting for the mule to get them to the US. Can you tell I am pissed. In the year 2013 it shouldn't take 2.5 months for fenders to get made and shipped from Japan. More coming soon!

Good luck man…. they shipped me the wrong fenders twice (fit wide fenders first two times) before my EP3 J’s fenders finally showed up (cracked) after waiting 6 months. I was too afraid to send them back and never get anything back so I kept the cracked fenders and now they're sitting in my basement collecting dust.

They’re pretty damn light BTW, but I can’t imagine stock fenders are heavy to start with.

I've got the car sitting as low as I can until I get it corner weighed and aligned. We'll go as low as we can with the proper suspension travel (1.5"). I'll definitely get before and after shots. From what my suspension guy has told me, hitting the frame is the issue; not hitting fenders. Then end goal is to widen the front track with 17x9's with 255's up front and change the rears to 225/45/17. Ight now the rear has too much grip running 235/40/17 all the way around.

One thing at a time though.

Still alive. Working out track bugs. Seems the new suspension and quicker track times have added issues I didn't have before. 1) Fuel starvation. Yes I am having major fuel slosh issues. If my tank is not full I run into air pockets and power loss. I have a solution, but lately, no time. 2) Oil issues. I WAS losing pressure. I had/have some not so great aftermarket bits in my oil pan. Removed one and it got better, need to remove the other. Myself and Evan have/had the same issues. I don't remember Evan's user name here. He went with a Mugen pan, I am going a slightly different road. But the thing to steer clear of is the Clockwise oil pan baffle. Basically it worked for neither of us. I took a job with a big tech company and it's sucking my life away. This is the year I come back or I will literally DIE trying.
