does anyone have an easy way of popping the ball joint to the tierods out of the shock? i kno a pitman arm puller will and a tierod separator will but they might damage the ball joint. i hear a hard hammer it or vabration will knock it loose to. but what are some other easy ways to do it. or what would you prefer to someone doing it in their driveway?

I used the pitman arm puller. It's essentially a clamp, and the end that screws has a 3/8" adapter for a wrench. Cost me ~$10 at autozone. Didn't feel comfortable hammering the tie rod end out.

use 2 penny's with the pitman puller.

unscrew the nut so that it is flush with the tie rod end giving you maximum surface area, put a board or 2x4 against that flat surface area, give a good whack with a hammer, 3-4 solid hits should knock it out

I will eventually be getting the aluminum dc5r front arms... but I'm alittle afraid of what's going to happen in the future if I have to pull them.
I've heard some horror stories about NSX guys how they just brake off of you don't use care to remove them.

You are thinking about control arms.. the OP asked about the tie rod ends which are connected to the strut and steering rack :mwink:

But yes those are a bitch most of the time.

Ok... unscrew the bolt so that its flush with the bottom of the thread of the ball joint and use a hammer. You can use a piece of wood if you feel more comfortable bu ti never do.. It should pop out. It works for me 100% of the time i do it. GL.

That's what I used for the ball joint, and it should work also for the tie rod. Of course...I used a hammer and block of wood method at the time. (as I didn't have the tool yet.)
