well i know dave is gonna chime in saying i told ya so :mcry: but the gatorback is very tight, and still not hitting peak boost, i spray a little belt dressing on her, and it hit's 2 more psi at 7000rpm plus. im considering sandblasting the 3.8 pulley to roughen it... or just buy this belt, didnt know gates made it this size:

62.2", same as the gatorback but not a cogged belt, so i will get more belt wrap than my previous 61.5" gates 8 rib that needed to be trimmed, with less belt tension

Told ya that gatorback is junk. Ive been sayin it forever on here but no one ever listens. What happened to the gates belt I told u to use? 25-070610

thats the belt i had before, but because its a short belt i didnt get much pulley wrap so the belt was loud as a mofo cause i had to have it so tight, then for some reason the belt started to squeal like hell, but i think it had to do with the way i cut the 8th rib.

Are you using the 2.5" idler/tensioner pulley from the RSX-S? It will help you keep that belt tight and will give you another half inch worth of adjustment on the tension bolt.

I used a Gatorback on the 3.8/2.5" pulley combo for 8 months and never had issues...

i never had to cut mine. and mine squealed to but it never bothered me. i picked performance over some noise. It was hella tight when it was on but its gona stretch as soon as u start it up

I know....God, what the hell are they thinking...lol:mbiggrin:

I have learned as well that unfortunately the smaller motors are better suited to a turbo. Just so much more efficient, and I hate to admit that being as hardcore of a s/c lover that I am...lol.

well i think it's my pulley, the ribs in the pulley are soooo glossy and smooth, im considering having the rib's sandblasted to make a rough surface to grab the belt. But idk why im having these problems, dave did as well, and i have his old setup. so the problem carried with me, when i had the gates on i had no tension on that thing, a lot less than stock, but i had no slippage issues at all. So im going back to the gates :)

The 2.5" RSX idler pulley is crucial when running anything smaller than the 4" pulley. Are you still running the EP3 specific idler pulley? I think I have a 2.5" packed up that I will be selling if/once I can find it.

That is just weird then. With the 3.8" pulley and the 2.5" idler I had at the tightest a half inch between the top of the tension bolt and the lock nut running a gatorback. And this was after the belt had broken in. Every car is different though so who knows.

no dude i know you gave me the 2.5, i thought the bearings went out in it so i bought it from jackson and it was the same pulley, but it turned out the be the belt making all the racket

I don't know what else to tell you then. The gatorback never, ever gave me any problems. Maybe the difference in material with the Pulleyboys and OEM JR pulley is what causes the slipping. I don't know if I would try the sandblasting idea. If you chew that pulley up you are just going to eat through belts. I would maybe look towards the auto-tensioner route.

quick question, do belt's have a break in period?

none i know of

yes. but since most car now have the auto tensioner no need to re-tighten the belt. but for manual tensioner, you need to break in for atleast 500 km . this the reason mine dont slip at all after the break in period. the longer i use the belt the less re-tightning i do specially when the belt really streach out.
