So I spent the $30 something odd dollars and waited 2 months to get these things in the mail and the damn license plate bolts won't fit my rear?! They're way too fat and my stock ugly ones are rusted up POS. Any suggestions as to what I can do? They start to screw in but stop about a quarter way in.. :gheywa:

I ran into a similar problem when I bought some slightly larger Allen head bolts to replace my rusted OEM bolts.

Find yourself a tap set and re-thread the holes to the desired size.

Worked great for me...

Yeah but wouldn't that involve actually drilling into the metal of my car? I'm not really down with that, it'll rust out.

Well if I'm not mistaken the bolts holes are bare metal anyways. So nothing would change except the threading and size of the hole. You won't be creating any new holes...just re-threading the existing ones.

If rust is a concern apply some anti-seize to the threads for protection.

Fortunately I don't have to deal with crazy winters where I live, so rust isn't a big thing for me.

Maybe someone with more experience in that area will chime in. :thumbu:

Same problem.... mine were rusted so i bought some mugen ones..... they don't fit. So now they sit on the work bench collecting dust.

To the guys that their mugen bolts won't fit, are they being bought from King Motorsport?

No I bought Mugen Pedals and the plate bolt set directly from King. These are legit.

which plate mounts are you using? the mugen bolts work on the oem plate surround that bolts to the hatch...

No plate:

As far as the Mugen bolts will go without probably screwing it into the actual metal:

The stock bolts you took off of your plate, were they tapered or fat for the entire length of the bolt? The ones on my car are super thin - was this not a factory done thing or did the dealer create these holes?

anti seize isn't really a rust inhibitor/preventor. i mean yea it sorta coats the threads to some degree, but if preventing rust is really your concern then get yourself some actual rust inhibitor.

Exact same mounting plate I have.... mugen bolts don't thread in very far.

I'm thinking because there's people in this thread who have them fit, and mine and yours dont - do you think these are screwed in at the dealership which would mean the differences instead of the factory?

Just want to let everyone know I attempted these again today. Seems my left license plate bolt hole was a little out of whack and with a bit of shifting while I was screwing the Mugen bolt in - it fit perfectly. If I had only tried the right side first (which went in perfectly fine) this thread wouldn't exist haha. So yes, these pretty much will work fine with the NA EP3.

Good to know, and glad you got it working!
