I understand this top speed topic has been beaten to death, and we all know the car is limited by short gearing. I

i've taken it to 125 it still had some left to go, and according to some other threads you can take it beyond 130 with no governer.

Yeah I feel you on it wanting to go more, it just seemed like when I came up on 128/130 it was gonna take for ever to do it. I think I was pulling a very subtle grade though. to be honest I really don't have the balls to try it again, nor do I want to, like those peeps that by an SUV just to say I can go rock crawling, and sling mud, I'd like to be able to say I can do a bill-40 allday if I wanted to.

But like I said I was sittin about 6600 just creeping, perhaps another two 1/2 miles would have granted 133-135?? who knows, I am however quite impressed with how poised this whip is at those speeds, I feel like I'm just pushing 80/90mph.

On the flip though you can sit and watch the gas gauge move, no joke:p

Once you hit 130, i think the odometer may start fo weary alot of the true speed,

All i know is you can hit mid way to 140 before that governer kicks in, and the rpms are into full redline by that point, i would say (tach and all guageas being 100% accurate) you hit 7200 rpms, goverener, top speed 135 mph.

This is from personal experiance and if i ever get a video camera i would love to film a 0 to 135 run. Anyways don't feel alone after 120/125 it starts loosing its pulling power, however it's still pullin.

yeah i did a top speed run the other night... very cold night and the road was empty besides me and my friend's RSX-S. I managed 138 and tried to snap some pics. i know that the speedo is a little of at the top end... i verified with my gps, factory speedo reads about 2-5 mph faster at high speeds.

Just curious... how many miles were on your car when you tried? when i had first gotten out of break-in (about 1200 miles) i tried a top speed and at 130 a strange noise came from the dash... sounded like some sort of harmonic/warning sound and i couldn't go any faster. When i pegged 138 i never encountered the noise and had about 8k miles on. I'm really beginning to think that honda has some tricky stuff in that ECU. Might explain why SCC and everyone is getting shit numbers for the EP.

Anyone else run into that noise... or was i the only one stupid enough to do a top speed run with such a new car? :p

some pics... this was the higheset one i was able to get... it's damned scary to try to operate a camera and drive that fast... stupid, but fun....

a slightly slower, but better pic

and yeah you can watch the gas gauge drop at that speed... i barely made it to the gas station

with the tach at 7000rpm, theoretically, the si can pull just over 140mph. I did the calculations in my thread in the street racing forum (2002 si v.s. 2002 svt)

in stock condition, i've gotten the speedo up to about 135ish on flat ground, with a near empty fuel tank, with my subwoofer in the back. I weigh 200lb, so the car wasn't exactly on the thin side.

with better tires, a stronger clutch, and boltons, I think you could hit the rev limiter in 5th.

ayup. was coming back from the track and had very little gas in to begin with and when you go that fast mileage drops down LOW... like 10 mpg maybe.

The SI is electronically limited to a top speed of 132 mph.
You may hit 133 or 134 but your going to start bouncing off the rev limiter at that point.

I hit 138 on a slight downhill

140 on a slight downhill, probably a 4% grade. the area where i do it is a PERFECT top speed course on a new highway that isnt even congested.

I will do another run and take a picture;)

I hit rev limiter in 5th gear all the time last summer coming back on the highway from work. 140mph isnt anything anymore....I wish it didnt have such a low redline/powerband...

coming back late night from a friends house last weekend with two buddies in the car I got it just barely to 130 on flat ground. From 125-130 it seemed like it took a mile or so. It got to 120 faster than I thought, but crawled from there.

doesn't the rev limiter cut off around 4500-5000 when revving in neutral? i thought it did that to me the other day, but i wasn't sure.

When It was just me and a 328i i hit like 137 and my tach was maxed out. I think the computer will prevent any further revs just before the redline in 5th gear. I should have hit the rev limiter cause i had it pinned for a good 2 miles, it was crazy, but it just refused to.

Has anyone ran with hondata?

Before Hondata I ran 135-138 pegging the rev limiter in 5th. After Hondata I had the speedo all the way around, stopped, and rpms still going, so 145+. Now with my A2 not sure how fast I can go!! :D

Nope the Si will rev to redline in neutral, my A2 only revs to about were VTEC engages, cant go to redline while in neutral.:(

To answer your question, there is no governor on the Si(R). End of story.
