While wandering around takakaira.com i stummbled on a Spoon throttlebody for the EP3! At $392, its way steep, but i mean, its Spoon. Does anyone know anything about this, or if they fit? It says they are for the Type-R, so do you think they will be too large? I have no clue

Is it a 70mm rtaper bore TB? If it is I think I stumbled across that a while back; not sure if it fits though.

Spoon Sports (www.spoon-sports.com)

They mention having a lot of stuff available for the EP3 chassis

Yes, the Spoon 70mm throttlebody will fit but you have to take out the cruise control. Good luck ordering it from Takakaira, they're shipping is outrageous to the US. Most places in the US sell it for around $500. Its not too beneficial unless you have or going to run a high compression setup. With I/H/E you will probably only gain about 5 hp but it is still a nice piece.

I origionally wanted to get the Spoon TB. My mind changed
after talking with JSIR and seeing his dyno results first hand.
(maybe he can chime in here to explain more) I am going to get
my TB bored out in the next week, and not loose the cruise. (don't use it anyways)
The cost is fractional compared to what spoon has to offer.
Apparently the 70mm is not entirely effective as this is the
taper mesurement on the spoon TB. I can't quite recall but I
think the effective ID on the spoon is only 66mm or less @ the butterfly.
(only 4mm over what we have now) @ near 600 bucks (US) it is really not
worth the time, effort and money imho.

What does the process of getting it bored involve?
What about the butterflies?

Well there is not much to it. Just find a reputable speed shop.
I was lucky in that it was done and proven for my own eyes.
Tks Joey.

Whats entailed:

1. Either you remove the TB and bring it in, or let them remove it.
2. If you remove it yourself, you will need to record the TPS resistance settings "as stock" so you can relocate the TPS sensor when done.
3. The max. overbore that can be done to the stock housing is 2mm safely.
4. The butterfly will have to be made to fit the new dims. Otherwise
you will have an overreaving engine at idle without the new one.
5. Turnarround is usually 2 days.

I think that is just about it. Will know more when I get this done next wk. JSIR might have more to say on this. hth
