I'm in the middle of picking up a K20A2 motor/tranny w/ harness.

My car is a 02 EP3 with:

JRSC 3.8 Pulley
K-pro
440cc Injectors
JRRH
Tanabe Exhuast
Injen Cai
CC Stage 4 w/Lightweight FW (I also have a spare fidanza flywheel)

I'm wanting to run the EP3 JRSC on the K20A2 and my other mods except for the injectors. I'll be going 650cc or 750cc instead. From looking around I know most of the mods I listed will fit the K20A2. I'm also going to pick up a set of the innovative motor mounts a swell for this swap.

I do not have the tools or time to do the swap myself. This car is my DD and I have a specific goal for it in mind with this swap along with the JRSC.

What should I expect for a shop to charge to do the swap? I'm in Montgomery, AL and would be willing to drive to drop the car/parts off if someone has a shop they recommend for this type of thing.

Thanks,

Josh

$500-$1,000 is a fair range.

Its gona vary from shop to shop. Different shops have different hourly rates. Plus it matters on what parts they will have to order. Some places like to replace certain parts when doing swaps while others might not.

Well I got a quote from the shop closet to me and it made me cringe.

I'm going to head up there and let him take a look at the car to see if we can drop the number else I may drive a state away.

**EDIT: Also I'm going to provide them with all the main parts. If they end up needing anything else I'll be surprised.

I have my list on how much my swap cost it wasnt pretty. but i can post it for u to help. But it was hella expensive plus there are lots of after market parts on my list. It cost me almost 10k when it was said and done. But that includes engine turbo new clutch new fly custom intake, custom 3in exhaust, motor mounts, air filter, new oil, oil filter, battery relocator to trunk etc etc

Go to a performance shop that work on imports and fixed up cars all the time. A few shops I went to wanted around $700 for labor. Some wanted more but they competed with each other for the lowest price.

I could probably point you to a few people/shops in B'ham that could get the job done if you're interested. I'd offer to do the job but I really don't feel like doing another EP swap within a month... lol

Also does anyone know if the EP3 JRSC setup will clear everything fine with a K24A1 swap?

u get what u pay for.....i'd say anything less than 1200$ is either sketchy or the shop has an extremely low overhead that they can manage to do a swap dirt cheap.
say 80$/hr for a 2 guy job that takes 5 hrs...thats 800 bucks right there and youll need atleast 400$+ for parts. dont low ball man its too risky

I'll find out the total bill tomorrow. I'm a little scared. Originally I was quoted 950 for labor, but that included resurfacing my flywheel, but I purchased a resurfaced a2 one instead. So that should have dropped labor to $900. But verbally he said he wouldn't charge to clean the engine bay and under chassis and the new motor, but I am yet to find out if that is true. I also added front brakes and tires mounted and balanced to the workorder. They didn't need to add anything else except for some zip ties and refrigerant since I supplied motor, resurfaced flywheel, oil, coolant, tranny fluid, oil filter, and tires. I did have them supply the brakes and the clutch. I'm hoping a bill of $1700 or less for labor($900), cc stage 4 clutch($340), front brake pads(?), and mounting and balancing(?), plus whatever little bullshit I am forgetting.

^^^^that was the route I always planned on taking, but unfortunately I didn't plan to ruin this last motor and I don't have the tools or time to devote to swapping myself.

dont really need that many tools to take the motor out...and just one day is all you need

to do it right its nice having proper tools.

A nice socket set, breaker bar, wrenchs, an engine hoist, jack thats not a low one, jackstands, a garage or covered area.

gotta leave room for error etc..specially if youve never tackled this type of thing before..leave 2-3 days for the swap.

wooop woooop! Just got done talking to the shop. Total damage was only $1,080.91. When I see them on Friday I want to look at the bill, because I think they left some stuff off. For instance the clutch, brakes, and getting the tires mounted and balanced. Unless they rocked the motor swap in 7-8 hours or Johnny decided to cut me a deal since his clutch was just sitting around for the last year unused or hoping that I turn around and have him tune it. Which I may, but Mike(elitetuning) did such an awesome job last time, I really trust his work.

Every swap that I've done has taken a few days, no problem. Could I have gotten them done quicker? Probably, but I'd rather take my time and tie up loose ends during the swap process.

neoamd

Well I have everything needed for the swap I just need the motors swapped out and the old mods installed on the new motor.

I have most of the mods already on the other motor so I cant see it taking them alot of time. Also I plan on keeping the 5 spd tranny for now.

my z3 swap labor was just over 700, that includes installing new clutch/new flywheel/redoing the intake/reverse lockout switch install/etc. Shop did some quality work and no problem since Jan 2010.

Can anyone recommended some good shops in the South East? I'm in Alabama and willing to drive and fly back if need be.

what part of alabama?

Adams Automotive did a good job on my car and ebizzle's frank+peakboost. They are in Crestview, FL in the northern section of the panhandle

Montgomery.

Crestview, FL -- hmm All of my family is from Pensacola so that might do the trick! Can I get a # or URL for these folks?

I knew I recognized your screen name from somewhere! You're a long time ARS/Bhamracing guy right?

Anyhow, let me ask around and see if I can't find something local here for you. Not sure if you know Michael Lee, but he's one of the only guys around here that I would go to. He's pretty well known in the Honda scene around here and has done some really nice work, more recently some nice K-series stuff.

850-689-2267, ask for Johnny. I'm thinking of doing this same thing since my engine seized. I live in Crestview, so its near me. I tlaked to Johnny for over 30 min. yesterday and he is very friendly and willing to listen and offer advise.

I second that. Johnny did my swap. I think labor was 850-900 and that included cleaning the motor up, pressure washing my engine bay, installing the motor, taking my rims to get tires put on because they don't do that in house, and brake installation. He even messed with the tune I was running for my cammed a3 to make it safe to drive the a1.

ebizzle will also back Johnny up, he and his brother have both had work done by Johnny. Fidels car was mostly tuned and I think he jumped timing once and he got super lucky and all Johnny had to do was put it back in time. Andrew's car, the rocker assembly grenaded on the dyno and Johnny had to rebuild the head.
