Hey, I'm wondering how street-able a dog box can be in an ep3. If making 5xx-6xx whp, would a dog box be the best bet? Also, how street-able is it? Thanks.

When you say "dog box" do you mean straight cut gears? I'm sure you could drive a dog box on the street in a DD. It would whine in gear constantly and rev-matching would be a requirement.

yah, my bad. I'm wondering how street-able straight cut gears from a dog box transmission is compared to other transmissions? What will the pros/cons be? How often can I drive it on the street? I've heard that some transmission that have straight cut gears will break ALWAYS within a few hundred miles or less. Thanks.

and by revmatching, I think he means double clutching.

I had a dog box in my '77 Mini and drove it mostly on the street. I really loved it and didn't have any problems. Forget a radio but you won't care! First was a helical gear.

Did u buy a ep3 on eBay?

Dog box is a dog engagement tranny, you can also get straight cut gears in synchro engagement, like oem.

After the pm's, that's weltall's/jason old car,it's a good car. He sold it to the guy you bought it from and he did a few things like gears and fuel cell, does it still have the dog(assuming yes since thread) and fuel cell?

yah it still has the dog and fuel cell... it's a completely different animal now though than it was.. much more potent and faster than the old set up.. the guy i bought it from is an avid car builder (880rwhp gt500 etc.) and this car was completely went through and rebuilt by Nat. speed in NC. thanks for the thumbs up man.

Well it made 500whp on 93 oct before Jason sold it, then that guy tuned it on race gas and made 600+. then I think it sunk a sleeve and the engine was rebuilt.
