Whats the difference between the civic type r and the type s engine?

I was wondering the same thing, but would also like to know how the JDM 02 Integra Type-R (RSX) engine matched up

The CTR and RSX type S motors are identical, they both are K20 blocks that have 200hp stock. The 02 JDM Itegra is also a K20 block, but it is a K20C5 which has 220 hp out of the box. Hope that this helps!!

i started to wonde rthe same thing since everyone keeps saying the k20a3 for our si's and the rsx are a little different.

I know the Uk version of the k series is the same as the type s k series, but doesnt the JDM CTR have 220Hp?

The CTR and the RSX both use the 200 hp K20A2...the only difference is the CTR gets the cool red valve cover.

The real difference between the two is the CTR gets an LSD, where the RSX does not. The JDM ITR has an LSD as well, but the engine is the 220 hp K20A.

Damn I need to get me a k20a 220 hp in my ep. What are those like 7k swap (Ballpark) ???

I duno if paying the extra $$ for the CTR motor is really worth it. However, you can build a Type-S motor with the CTR pistons and cams and it should be comparable...according to Hondata. I better start saving... :D

the only difference that I have heard of is that the CTR shares the same electronic power steering system that is found on our cars, where the RSX has a normal steering pump.

True, the US RSX uses a pump. But the ITR uses the same electronic system as the EP3. I know this because the guy I got my K20A2 from got an ITR K20A and had to put his pump on it because the motor came with an idler like the A3 uses.

so would the K20A be an easier swap for us? or does it not affect anything?

Either one is a simple, bolt in swap. The only difference is if you get an A2 with the pump on it you need to swap the idler off your A3. It bolts right in place and uses the same drive belt (as your A3--the A2 belt is longer due to the diameter of the pump pulley.)

The idler pulley on the surpentine belt, is this the only swap
consideration? I know there must be more. Modern, are you
saying that the mounts and all work seamlessly? Plse add
if your leaving something out. tks and think you are our best
resource here for the info.

There are three obstacles to an A2 swap.

1. Idler pulley

2. Shifter (won't reach reverse unless you modify it)

3. ECU/Immobilizer (Honda dealer)

Honestly, it is an EASY swap. It took two guys one day with no lift. Mounts line up exactly (we used the A3 mounts anyway and they bolted right to the A2 in the same places.)

Thanks modern, very good info for us on this side of the pond.
Don't think a type-R has much on the type-S so this is a very
sweet swap. pls post any times or dyno results. tks again.:)

I vote your are worthy of a type-R status. hell ya!

One quick question modern, do you think the type-S head
could be swapped along with the wire harness and cpu. Wut
kind of comparison would that make keeping the 5 speed?

The head swap has been discussed at length before, although all of it is speculation since nobody has done it yet. There are other considerations...the compression ratio is lower in the A3, therefore making just the head swap not the equivalent to bolting in an A2. And I personally think the 5 speed would take away from whatever added power you would get from the more agressive cams and VTEC associated with the A2 head/ECU.
