Anyone out there polished their stock muffler? If so have you been stopped by the popos cause they thought it was aftermarket and if so what happened?

1. Thats a good idea if you want the muffler to blend in.

2. Yeah, some person on Honda-Tech did that to his ep3 muffler. I plan on doing the same.

What did you use to polish it?

Thats not my muffler up there, i am using the following method (taken from Honda-Tech)

"I started with 400grit on mine. It was far from clean to begin with though.

400 grit
600 grit
800
1000
1200
then finished it off with 2000 grit.

I then used Mothers Billet/Aluminum Polish with an old t-shirt as an applicator

Stock exhausts look very classy polished and with a GSR or Si stock tip.

good luck

would it rust if i were to sand it?? for some reason i've always thought there was some sort of coating on it. if i could sand it down and polish it without worrying about rust then i may try that this weekend.

stainless steel doesnt rust. which i hope our mufflers are made of. i wouldn't worry about it. mine was shiney when i first got my ep.

ok yeah, once again im full of poo. but it wont rust like you think it will. its rust RESISTANT, not rust-proof. your supposed to be able to just scrub off any rust on stainless steel with some household cleaners. These bad boys and many other aftermarket exhausts would be toast if they rusted like a 1970 subaru.

1. Our 2002 TL is rocking polished stock mufflers and never had any issues with rust...its stainless steel. Plus we wash the backboxes along with the car weekly. Same goes for my EP3.

2. We already had the supplies on hand but shouldn't be expensive.

*Gojo orange hand cleaner
*SOS pads
*2000 grit sandpaper
*Mothers aluminum/mag polish
*Paper towels
*MF cloths

I love the look of the stock EP3 muffler...dual tips look very European and complement the EP's rear end nicely.

I like the way it looks to... I have my exhaust setup the way it is (Type-S mid-pipe) because of the laws here in Cali... That way it's all legit and no state ref problems. ;-)
