I would like to know what heads IF any I can swap onto the a3 block and what benefits they may have and if it is really worth it to not get a longblock i.e. k20a2, k20z1 or a k24 i have an aem ems and know a tuner so i will get the most out of it and i do not have to worry about labor

Welcome to EPhatch

Any K-series head will bolt on, the K24A2/A4 and K20Z3 heads will require modification or adaptors for the coolant bypass, plus adding the coolant divertor.

The K20A2 and K20Z1 use the same head, just different cams.

There is a ton of info within this section and the engine section. Also over on K20A.org you will find some more info.

The A3 with a A2 head swap will still not be up to the full A2 swap potential.

why exactly would i not get the full potential ? i plan on atleast changing the springs and retainers, also how well will the setup work with the 5 spd tranny ? sorry for all the ?'s but just trying to determine if it is worth the work and money ? and what kind of gains should i expect ? i also can get parts cheap if i need say a different crank or pistons. how will the setup handle boost ?

the a3 has potential to do 300ish hp boosted but the motor is very well made to handle anymore than that dd. the k20a2 can handle 400hp without problems. the bottom end of the a3 isnt as well made as others. your better off getting a k24a1 and kpro. youll see much more gain. im sure other will chime in

if you want to do a swap you need kpro

Forget the Ti springs and retainers, totally not needed.

High performance does not mean longeviety, usually the exact opposite.

Do your research very thouroughly regrading the cams you purchase, some are only good for stickball bats.....

I have no clue as to AEM ems,

What an unfortunate abbreviation...well not for craigslist. "In need of some much needed head..." Sorry to drag this to the gutter but I had to point that out. I planned a k24a1 headswap a few years back but decided that for all that work I was just going to swap the whole engine and get some torque out of the deal.

/ "In need of some much needed head..."

lol thats all i saw too.

unfortunatly, honda gave the ep3 the worst k series they ever built.
fortunatly, it is a k series, so the potential is great.
