So the other night i was pullin outta the gas station and i got on it in first and righ when i grabbed second the car fell on its face and started soundin like a subaru. I drove it home on 2 cylinders thinking maybe i just needed new coils. Put the good coils from 1&2 into 3 and 4 and made no difference. So i checked my plugs and they were BLACK. So i changed them still no difference. Decided to take the plugs out and crank my motor to feel for compression. 1&2 had good and 3&4 had little to none. Drove it to my mechanic and the second i started turning it over for him to listen he said he could tell by the sound theres somethin seriously wrong and i need a new motor. Anybody have an idea what went wrong?

Ripped on the car, cylinder 3&4 started misfiring, cylinders now have little to no compression. Dont know what happened.

take the oil pan off, seeing whats going on with that bottom end, you should get a better ideal than

Idk what happened. Im gonna pull the motor eventually and see what happened. Ive never done anything like this so it will take a lot of time. Im slowly gonna piece together a k24a1 swap and try to have the car back by next summer. I jus bought a 99 miata to drive in the meantime.

Baller! Just sell the EP and mod the miata now

I highly doubt your engine is toast, remove the VC and verify/correct the cam timing, THEN do a compression/leakdown test.

I simply can not contain myself, everytime I hear a flatlander say """I drove to MY mechanic""", like the mechanic was a gynecologist or something, LOL

I chuckle everytime someone gets called a flatlander by you.

i just chuckle...

Keep in mind mechanics want business and money...tearing a motor down to find a problem isnt something hes going to do.

Not neccesarily calling the TS a flatlander. Just the statement, the concept of having a mechanic like you do a doctor is just so foreign to me, I had NEVER heard such talk untill I worked closer to NYC(who are flatlanders).

WHY DID YOU NOT JUST PULL THE CAR OVER..??

AAA and tow trucks FTW. At least you can tell the guy working on your car I didn't make it any worse.

The mechanic wasnt tryin to get me for anything hes a buddy of mine and knows id be doing the work myself. I hope the motor is blown! Otherwise i just bought another car for no reason. Oh well either way time for a bigblock.

I do like the way you think!

Dont take any offense at the earlier reply, it was not you, just the visual image of old Sienfeld shows and dealing with "the mechanic" LOL

Where can you pick up a K24A1 in good shape for a descent price? I'm in the market for a swap and I would like to an engine and go ahead and build it before dropping it in there

I have found entire CRV's for sale for what people pay for a longblock. Look at all the extras you would have, lotsa connectors, windows to smash, fenders to kick, LOL

Then take the CRV to the scrap yard after all the fun and get some cash for the scrap!

Ok, what year models would I be looking for? Also which u think would be better? Just going ahead and buying a k20A1 or getting the k24A1?

k20a1? k20a motors are very expensive

can we come over and break a CRV..??

your motor jumped timing coz of failed timing chain tensioner. tensioner failed, Chain developed slack then valves made contact with pistons. i bet u have bent valves.

I meant k20a2, wrong key. True they are expensive, but I mean is it worth it just swapping in the type-r engine, with the 6 speed tranny, and the buddy club shifter? Or to save the money and build a k24a1?

RHCP0801

get a k24a2 lol

A lot of things need to be looked at before anyone should proclaim this motor to be "toast"

taking the valve cover off take a total of 10 mins.

SandBagger

it is hard to determine what is wrong and how much it will cost until everything is taken apart and checked over. it might be cheaper to swap out longblocks and try to part out what you have. Rebuilds are not cheap but they do give one a sounds piece to rest on with new bearings/oil pump, gaskets, etc..

WOW that really sucks. I think Im probley going to be in for a motor swap soon since mine has top and bottom end nocks. top end got alot quiter after the valve lash was done but shes still nocking :(

yea dude i doubt your engine is done, sounds like maybe the chain skipped or maybe when you banged second you got a little valve float and piston to valve contact occured but i'd look into it more before you replace the engine, definately start with timing related components and check VTC function
