**56K Murder/Suicide**

I'll be adding to this first post as I get parts in and fix my gay transmission. Its gay not because it likes penis and is a man, but gay because Honda wont fix it under warranty but they will fix all other K-series 3rd gear notches/grinds. Gay because it doesn't have a 6th gear, and LSD, and horrible gearing for highway driving, which would be fine, if it had a 6th gear.

So on my to-do list is:
LSD
Fix 3rd gear shifting
Add a 6th gear
Mate it to a TSX motor - another thread.

I have already ordered all my parts required to get the job done, the meat of this project wont be done until I get the motor this spring, unless I find a real quick way to drop the transmission.

So today, with nothing further to add, I have before me, an OBX LSD. With the help of Club RSX's thread on De-mystifying and Bulletproofing the OBX LSD (http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=520556), I will be bulletproofing (the best I can) this LSD!

Opening my LSD, I come across 5 messed up screws. They are mangled at the bottom of the threads. I don't have a tap right now to clean these up, so it looks like I wont be putting this back together tonight. 8/10 planet gears are "upside down" with the dimples facing the least favorable way, according to the DIY above. and there are 7 belleville washers in the middle aligned like so: )()()))
But, seeing the horror stories over on HT, I don't wanna take my chances with my one trasmission. So I found a website by Rich Bryant (http://rbryant.freeshell.org/obx_washers.htm) that sells rebuild kits, and since I don't know anything about belleville washers, I went ahead and purchased his kit for $32 shipped. It only took 2 days to receive too.

I'll post pictures later, after I finish the LSD this weekend.:mangel:
Box that OBX LSD comes in. Oily.

It comes wrapped in a cheap plastic bag, I suggest wrapping it in a zip-loc if you plan on storing it longer before you install it.

This is an original screw from the unit, note the messed up threads at the tip and the scaring on the top.

One of my main axle gears is spotted. I'm not sure why...

This is the belleville washer collar(I think thats what its called) and it has terrible casting. The cut on the inside is nice, but the outside, horrible. I dremeled it.

This is basically the side of the axle gear, edges are sorta rough, and the face is gritty and dirty, even after brake cleaner.

The unfinished insides, at the worst angle, the opposite side was not so bad...

Jacked up holes, all 5.

Mostly finished, this is about an hour after starting.

I started with the top part, the "cover" for the LSD if you will. This is one of the thrust surfaces, so i wanted to make it smooth. all the black stuff was very rough, and when I was playing with the gears installed, it rubbed it off. something you DONT want in your transmission.

This is the finished cover, and axle gear, installed. the planetary gears are just there for comparison to how black it was before.

Without planetary gears.

11/30/2010 - TSX 6th (and friends) arrived and my 3rd gear syncro assembly with. The main housing for the LSD is almost done, just need to get the thrust surfaces and polish it up, i'll finish that tonight and post smaller pics lol.

12/4/2010 - LSD is finished. it takes HOURS to make it all nice. It used to snag and catch a little before, but now its like a hot knife through (i wanna say "a dead baby," lol) butter. Its now covered in oil in a ziplock bag in the box, waiting for me to crack the tranny open. I also picked up the Private Label MFG header. its beast. that will be in the swap thread. more pictures coming in a bit. gotta upload.

This is probably the final update untill next year...from now on i'll be collecting engine pieces for the swap.
