have you tried a high grit wet sand? that may work as long as the oxidation hasnt pitted the wheels

yeah i fully agree with this

try wet sanding with like a 2000 grit sand paper
note: this will dull any shine on the wheel. so you might have to buff and polish after.

Take em to get professionally sand blasted. And powder coated any color u want. New decals and they will be like brand new. Gotta guy here locally does wheels for 40 bux each that's sandblasted and powder coated pretty much any color u want.

ya there is a company here that wants to strip and powder coat for 80 bux a wheel... i only have 900 in them so even after that i would only have like 1150 in them... which still is not bad for a set of volks that would be brand new almost....

thanks guys for all your help i might try that high grit sand paper tomorrow after work... what's the worst that could happen... have to get them powder coated..

try leaving the aircraft stripper on longer and leave it in the sun.

Be careful that will start to eat through the metal

idk about this... i would rather keep the metal and just have them fixed....

it shouldnt eat your metal away, but if you dont feel safe doing it. i do it all the time never had a problem with the metal.

Have you tried Peanut Butter it may sound stupid but it works good on bronze wheels. The Peanut oil is good for gettin rid of oxidation. http://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1742344

its not like pouring acid on the wheel, it creates a chemical reaction that makes the paint lose adhesion. sand blasting is far more dangerous to the metal than aircraft stripper. not that either are all that bad anyways...

sandblasting is FTW. but only if it's a smaller machine and you go easy with it. i've never used aircraft stripper though

I am not sure how long but i dont think it would really hurt the wheels. I saw put some on and let it sit for like a min and wipe it off. Try it on the inside of the wheel before the face. I wonder if you can just buy some peanut oil and wipe it on with a cloth

I would just get them done by a professional, they aren't cheap wheels and I wouldn't risk damaging them.

i like this idea... i was just trying to find something that would work right then so i could have some tires put on but im gonna have them stripped and pwdr coated.

What method did you use to clean the wheels?

situner28
01-05-2011, 04:49 PM
elbow grease and alot of penut butter and tire shine.... sounds crazy but it will work until i can get them refinished.

looks good, i heard its hard to match that volk bronze color if you did re-finish it : /

situner28
01-10-2011, 11:12 PM
yes it is extremely hard to find the exact bronze they use but you can call there shop out in cali and get the code for it... but finding somewhere to sell it to you is a complete different story.

situner28
01-13-2011, 05:54 PM
lol ya the tires are definitely smaller than what i expected but they were cheap so when i use these up i will get a 45 series tire...
