Found this (http://www.ankaka.com/mini-global-gps-tracker-slim-design-portable_p317.html) looking for GPS tracking systems for a backpack. Obviously there are malicious uses for this type of product, but my neighborhood is under threat of methheads or dumbass kids that like to steal shit out of peoples cars. After losing +$600 in uniform equipment, I've decided to invest in a little security. I know you guys are like, who the hell leaves $600 of anything in a car, but then I'd like to think, who the hell would steal USAF uniforms and workout gear?

This can be stashed in backpacks or whatever, hidden in your car incase of theft, and since theres no proprietary transmission service provider, all you need is a prepaid sim or add a line to your existing GSM (AT&T, t-mobile for example) service.

I just ordered this (http://www.ankaka.com/mini-global-gps-tracker-slim-design-portable_p317.html), I'll post up vids and a review after I receive it.

$71 shipped.

So, I ordered this thing from china, came in 4 days. AWESOME. I can't even get UPS, USPS, or FEDEX to deliver in less than that time from the same state...+1 DHL!!

Anyways, this thing is pretty neat. I stole the 3G sim card from my girls iPhone, stuck it in the GPS tracker, and charged it up. All you gotta do basically, is call it. It will ring a few times, then go to voice mail. Then you hang up before its done. A few seconds later, you get a nifty link (smart phone status here...) that shows you exactly where, via Google maps, the transmitter is. It literally showed me my address on Google after I clicked the link on my iPhone. You can text commands to it for some things like "Monitor" mode, where you can listen in via built in microphone. It has an SOS button, so when you add "authenticated" numbers to it, it will text those numbers your coordinates with a little message that says "help me!" You can also set it up to send you periodic updates, movement notice, and even set up a geo-fence. The only down side, is that you have to text it all in. No cool little app to set it all up for you.

But that's ok. When I plant the next bag in my civic to be stolen on purpose, the look on the meth-head/kids face(s) will be priceless when the cops come knocking on the door, and the piles of stolen stuff hopefully gets returned to their respective owners.

Laying in wait with a 44mag is a far better detterant you only need to ventilate a few tweakers and they will steer clear.

That's pretty cool. Seems like a hassle to have to dedicate a sim card for one of those tho.

well i have roll over minutes like its noones business and the cheapest go phone card i found is 15$ and its only good for 30 days, so adding a line thats only $10 a month, is way cheaper than any other GPS tracking subscription plan out there.

@talon - I don't have the time or resources to watch tweakers with a .45 from my garage. im sure that will keep them away from my car, but crackheads move fast. I work 12 hour shifts at night 4-8 months out of the year and live 45 minutes from work. 14 hours of "work" time from my day. Though, that does give me a good reason to get a .45.

Now for a car, whatever floats your boat. But for the recent rash of smash and grabs going on in my neighborhood, to track the theives and have them arrested/charged under burgalary/posession is what would best benifit everyone, wheather its meth heads or kids. This didn't just happen to me, my neighbors' cars were all hit too. wheather it was just a lighter, or +$600 in uniform equipment, things were stolen. We've been in this neighborhood far over 10 years, we don't need it to turn ghetto over night. So for me, this is the best option. I've been messing with it, and it has been working great. Getting the latest Viper alarm installed in the EP, and a basic door and tilt system in the EF. The EF will be turned into a theif trap once i get back from vacation.

the website says the gps tracker comes with a charger. does that mean the tracker needs to be recharged at home and taken in and out of the car as needed?

yeah it comes with a charging cable that charges both, the battery while its IN the unit, and another battery, thats in a completly separate charger. if you look around the site, one of the accessories is a 12v adapter harness for a car, so you can hard wire it in so you dont have to take it out, thus defeating the purpose.

im looking for a link for it...i know i saw it.

ed: found it
http://www.ecrater.com/p/7649437/tk102-gps-tracker-hard-wired - permanent type

http://www.amazon.com/Gprs-Tracker-Tk102-2-Wired-Charger/dp/B0043PH0QA - cigarette lighter type, splice into 12v to make permanent. this is the tracker with both wall and car charger. $5 shipping, fair price. I should have looked around more -_-.

Also, I was looking around for this under the product name "TK-102" and it looks like you can program it to constantly update/move update to the web (through gpsgate.com for free) if you just add APN settings and whatnot. I'll try it tomorrow, after i get another line added to my account for it.

Free GPS Gate Account - http://gpsgate.com/signup/gpsgate_com_buddytracker

To program it to work with GPSGate.com, heres the commands:

set APN: apn+password+space+GSMPROVIDERAPN (example for AT&T: apn123456 wap.cingular)

set APN User and Password if neccesary: up+password+space+APNUSERNAME+space+APNPASSWORD - not needed for AT&T

set ip address and port to send tracking info: adminip+password+space+ipaddress+space+port (adminip123456 69.10.131.178 30176)

set device for 1 minute tracking until device is turned off (or whatever you want, following the examples in the manual): t001m***n+password (t001m***n123456)

set device to track by gprs: gprs+password (gprs123456)

if you want to set device to track by sms again send command: sms+password (sms123456)

This commands at least are working fine for my tk102.

Seems awfully complicated... I use THIS (http://www.zoombak.com/products/auto/) hardwired into the car. Real time tracking and ability to setup safety 'zones'. Got it on Amazon for $50 and monthly fee is only $12.
