I've had this noise ever since I've owned my EP (4 years or so). When I turn my car off, I hear a loud bonk noise after a minute or more. It comes from the rear of the car. I always figured it was the fuel tank equalizing or something, but now I'm curious to know what it is exactly. It sounds like a dent popping out of a thick can. Anyone know?

A bonk? Or a ping?
After re-reading I realized you meant a metal pinging. It's your exhaust coming back to ambient temperatures. All 4 cars in my family do that when they're parked after a long drive.

Sometimes aftermarket resonators make a noise after the car has been shut off. Do you have a stock or an aftermarket exhaust?

its just your exhaust, all cars do it

You could be hearing a EVAP system solenoid valve.

The exhaust makes a popping/pinging sound as it cools and really cant be mistaken for anything else.

A bit late to respond, read a few posts and assumed it was my exhaust. Stock exhaust, only mod on my car is intake.

I'm used to some rather quiet pinging and popping, but this is one loud bang (like a nut falling in a coffee can). I guess i'll find out eventually, if anything breaks!

My old integra did the same thing.
