after reviewing part numbers, diagrams, etc.. in response to this thread: http://www.k20a.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40933

why not do it the easy way? im not sure if this will work 100% yet, but from looking at things for multiple hours, tons of pictures and diagrams... i dont see why not.

you have a k20z3 transmission with the backwards moving shift lever as shown as part 13 in this diagram:

k20z3 shifter assembly (http://www.bkhondaparts.com/billkay/jsp/prddisplay.jsp?catcgry1=CIVIC&catcgry2=2006&catcgry3=2DR+SI&catcgry4=KA6MT&catcgry5=SHIFT+ARM+-+SHIFT+LEVER+%282.0L%29&ListAll=All&vinsrch=no&systemcomp=Transmission&prdrefno=&quantity=0&act=&count=0&hidSwitch=&hidIrno=)

and assuming you have an a3 transmission with the shift lever..part 12 in this diagram:

k20a3 shifter assembly (http://www.bkhondaparts.com/billkay/jsp/prddisplay.jsp?catcgry1=CIVIC&catcgry2=2002&catcgry3=3DR+SI&catcgry4=KA5MT&catcgry5=MT+SHIFT+ARM+-+SHIFT+LEVER&ListAll=All&vinsrch=no&systemcomp=Transmission&prdrefno=&quantity=0&act=&count=0&hidSwitch=&hidIrno=)

why not just take part 13 from the z3 diagram and replace it with part 12 from the a3? you would need to remove parts: 20,21,4,4,6,7,10,11,12,24 from the z3 shift lever and put them back onto the a3 shift lever replacing current components on a3 lever.

doing this will "theoretically" make the 1-2 / 3-4/ 5-6 shifts correct again, while retaining the reverse lockout mechanism that is already attached to the z3 assembly. i see no reason to change any parts other than the lever itself. this way you are left not drilling and taping holes, and in fact the side to side movement of the shifter should be reduced being that the select lever for the z3 is a tad shorter.

I will actually try to make this work just to see if it is possible as soon as i get into my swap, will be about a week. any input would be great! i havent seen any threads of anyone trying it this way yet... i'm hoping i am on to something.

hes talking about the transmission, from almost a year ago.

and if anyone else pulls this up, im pretty sure you can swap the guts, just keep the speedo ring on the diff (not sure if the z3 has space for one since its countershaft driven)

the 6spd gears fit the ep shafts
