Hey everyone

I just purchased a turbo kit this weekend. When I got home however I tried to hold the intercooler in place and realized it would not fit with the JDM rebar. What have other people done when running a front mount with a JDM bumper. Looking at it I think the rebar could be cut to allow the intercooler piping, but that would heavily reduce the rigidity.

Heres some pics of what I'm talking about.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

i always thought you couldt run a rebar with an IC and jdm front bc there wasnt enough room but i saw this for the first time today:

he's got a full race setup. here's a link to his build thread: link (http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?57781-lbk02si-s-BIG-BUILD-THREAD!!!!-%28Journal-of-an-Si%29)

i know that cutting the rebar will effect the structural integrity of the rebar, but i'd rather mod the usdm rebar than the jdm counterpart. welding a plate where he cut the rebar whould help the rebar be more rigid in crash

That looks like a USDM rebar. The JDM rebar is almost flush against the AC condenser. I was thinking that as well, cut the bar and weld on plate. I dont have a USDM one anymore, so modifying the JDM one is my only option.

yeah no, that is for sure a usdm rebar. the jdm one does sit very close i don't think you can squeeze an IC behind it. hopefully someone else more knowledgeable chimes in. sorry, i wasnt much help

So, how do you run an intercooler with a buddyclub front end/jdm rebar?

cutting the weak ass jdm rebar would make it even more useless than it already is. Either run without a rebar, mod the US one, or make a custom. I ran without for like 3+ years but plan to mod the US one this time and make a custom rear.

if you need to sell the jdm bar I have someone that may be interested also.

What problems will/could you run into running with no rebar?

no rebar mean your jdm bumper will be destroyd if u were to get into a car crash and it hits the front. god forbid that happens to anyone. other than that i dont see a point truthfully

your bumper will be screwed either way, it will be more structural damage to the core support and such if you get in a wreck...

That's what I thought would happen. Hmph... a custom fab rebar seems like the only way to get an IC to work with a JDM front end safely. Good thing I'm learning how to weld.

I didn't think the usdm would fit with the jdm bumper, but modifying it does seem like the best option... ill update more when I get to cutting

I know this isn't related to anything but this took me a minute to find. Possible sticky? or something?

Old thread...but this is what I did. Drilled out the welds on the factory rebar mount, bent up a piece of chromoly pipe(like what's used for role cages), and welded it to those mounts. Then I made new brackets for the sides of the intercooler to mount it to the raditor core support. All said and done...I like it. Here's an old picture:
