Jus wanna let people know how 3m CF vinyls are extremely easy to wok with.
this is my first time working with vinyls an it came out flawlessly (100% thanks to the Vinyls, not my skills definitely) You should all pick up some and start wrapping your parts!

Thanks,
I am sure they have flat black too. Thats the same thing people use to vinyl wrap their entire car flat black.

I am not selling any of these, but one of our venders would know.

Love how this turned out. Looks awesome. I'm thinking of doing the same(not trying to bite your fresh style ) with some red CF vinyl for the dash and handles.
How much work involved using a heat gun? If any at all.

i used a hair dryer. You would need to heat it around the corners to shape the CF vinyl.

Now is this stuff like actual carbon stuck on vinyl or is it just a layered sticker that looks like carbon??? I'm just curious because it looks so real. Also it would be nice to get it with a clear layer on top to give it that resin look.

It is the so-called 3D carbon fiber sticker by 3M. It has the texture of carbon fiber, not these cheap carbon fiber stickers.
here is the link if i may post it, http://www.carbonfiberfilm.com/
as a matter of fact, you can paint clear coat on top of the vinyl to make it look glossy! I have seen people do that on the internet, but i havnt tried.

Just curious, why is oracal better?

3m is probably the best but its also pricey...oracal from what i understand is extremely easy to manipulate, does well with complex surfaces and tight radiuses, has good durability and adhesion, and can be removed from the car without leaving hard to remove residue or ruin paint. its very different from automotive sign vinyl which will hurt the paint

I know im just lazy
the funny thing is that i have the damn center console pieces in front of me too LOL

i think i will really get this...just went over to their site, watched the vids and saw how simple and nice they look
their other colors look great as well...

14x14" should be enough for the top console
12x9" for the bottom console should be good to go, these include about 1" or more on each side of excess material for better results on the edges

dont have access to the door handles at the moment

you need to remove several parts surrounding it. However, you dont need to take the bpillar off to wrap it.

Looks awesome, for the b-pillar trim - did you just measure and cut? Not a lot of wrapping involved right? Seems like you couldn't get around the entire thing so its just on the part that is showing?

the trick to vinyl or adhesive sheet layup is to always overlap and trim, or make a die line that lines it up and then trim...so the trick to doing stuff like this is you cut the sheet to slightly bigger than the piece, it helps, depending on the piece, to trace around the piece on the backing of the vinyl, and then trim it, then remove a small bit of the backing, and slowly pull up the backing while working back and forth across the vinyl to apply it...the trick is make sure you arent stretching it either, which is important with carbon texture because you will distort it and it will look like a bad carbon layup...then after its applied to the part you wrap it around the edges and corners past the point where the part touches other surfaces, then trim off excess on the back side...or atleast thats how ive done stuff like this for professional model making

Baron, Notice you didn't mention the use of one... All the videos I've seen usually have a heat gun for application. How important is the heat gun with the 3M CF vinyl?

aw shit...ya, depending on the vinyl you use a heat gun, good catch...some stuff you use a liquid and you fit it and squeegie out air bubbles, then use a heat gun to make it set up in place...

it is around the front and the edges (you can just tuck it in). Virtually, you will not be able to see the original black trim no matter which angle. You just have to stick a big patch on top, then cut around the trim, leaving a little bit more so you can wrap around the edge.. Lastly, tuck everything in with a plastic card and heat gun.

Jukka

probably wouldnt handle the heat. If anything it would probably just become soft and continue to stretch/distort.

Just did my center console, door handles and door trim piece leading off the door pad. Very nice, makes the whole silver center console feel part of a greater whole, leading the eye towards and away from the dash.
Used the 1080 carbon fiber Anthracite, shows up much brighter ( reflective) in the pics. The center console pic is a better approximation of color.
Enjoy!

So glad I found this thread. Someone broke into my car and stole my stereo and in the process broke pieces of my oem carbon fiber trim. So sad. This way I can match the trim and also do the door handles and stuff.
