Hey I've got the chance to pick up a bare k20a2 longblock for 500$ to install in my ep3. However, in every threads I've read about this swap, the engine had all the accessories like alternator and PS pump with it. In my case, there is nothing else but the engine itself. No alternator or PS pump.

I'd like to know if there's anything I might be missing when I'll swap engines. Can I use my a3 alternator on the a2? Let me know 'cause I don't wanna miss this deal if everything from my a3 swaps over to the a2!

btw, here's some pics of the engine....what you think? supposed to be approx 60k:

Yes you can swap all those parts over from the a3, and you won't need the P/S pump anyways so all you are really missing is the alternator, starter and a few other things you can take from the a3. But the bad news is that the motor in the pics is not a Type S K20a2 its a K20a3, looks to be from a Base RSX. Take a look at the cams and you will see its not a K20a2

You will also need a K20a2 water pump as the K20a3 DOES NOT fit. I think the knock sensors are different as well, but you will have to search to confirm that.

I was going to mention the water pump aswell but I thought I saw the water pump pulley in the first pic, then I noticed it wasn't an a2. Looks like someone took the a3 out of their RSX and just trying to unload the remnants on someone. Look on the block where the starter goes and you will see the engine code or if the sticker is still on the timing chain cover it will say k20a3.

damn...so it really is a a3? What's the differences between a2 and a3 cams?

This engine is like a 2h30 drive from me so if you guys are sure it's a a3 I won't even take the time to look at it closer....

Absolutley positive its an a3, when you look at the cams and there is only 2 lobes its and a3. The a2 has 3 lobes on the cams.
Here is a pic of the a2 head and as you can see there is a big difference in the cams compared to your pics.

thanks man! You just saved me 500$ and a 5h drive ;)! I might call the man and try to mess with him a little just to see if he'll continue to tell me it's an a2...!

The a3 has 1 lobe on the exhaust and two on the intake, the A2 has 3 lobes on the intake AND exhaust.

that engine in those pics looks beat to all hell !

No problem glad you didn't buy it and then post the pics cause you would have been pissed.
I wouldnt say the motor looks beat to hell, it looks like it has been through 7 or 8 Quebec winters. The salt on our roads combined with sand and snow will make anything aluminum look like that in a couple years. Not to mention all the undercoating caked on it.
